yeah 2 specific devices though. that's why it's a case by case basis. If i listed all the ones that didn't do good temp control from them it would be much longer. as long as your happy keep doing what your doing. nothing wrong with that. I just wouldn't stake my name recommending one for temp control outside of those 2. also FWIW the invoke i just reviewed sucked balls and the RX21700 isn't much better lol
I love the Invoke [emoji5] Though the tcr needs to be adjusted for ss tc to work properly.

I refuse to recommend Wismec due to the thin wiring they use. 22 awg wiring for 30 amps!? That's just asking for the insulation to break down and short out or catch on fire.

totally understand that. it was a big issue in a lot of their mods. one of the reasons I've given them a ton of .... as well

I don't know how you can use it, but then again your probably used to it anyway since it's the only brand you use so you may not notice all the issues
Oh, I use and have used several other brands. I really have no issues with it, yet. I respect you as a reviewer, but you do have a tendency to regard your experiences and opinions as objectively valid and flawless. Daniel from Djlsb Vapes has a similar problem. You really should watch out for that. No ill intent on my part, just saying that your reviews would benefit from it.

Fascinating and informative thread.

Well, you yourself give honorable mentions to both Eleaf and Wismec [emoji6] Not gonna argue. I've just been very satisfied with (almost) every Eleaf, Wismec, and Joyetech mod I've ever had, and use them exclusively in tc. They work great for me, and that's what matters, to me [emoji5]

I use Eleaf and Smoant devices in TC. I couldn't use the Eleafs (Eleaves?) without Arctic Fox.

Speaking of Arctic Fox on the Joyetech/Wismec/Eleaf chips... what say you, @Anthony_Vapes?

i mean if something works or doens't is kind of a thing. I do understand the subjectivity when it comes to atomizers and juice and all. mods are kind of a tested thing though. a measurable quantity. it's not to "poop on others opinions" if someone found what they like, good for them. but when advising people it's always important to be thorough. As you said i do reviews. when i put my name on something i want to be sure and i want it to work and i want anyone who grabs it to be happy with it. If i wans't doing reviews it's a little different. The ravage230 did a good temp control. i'm currently vaping on the joyetech espion and the TC sucks lol. I nevr said i was flawless. we all make mistakes and i'm always open to learning more. like remember the pharaoh rta? mine was a leaky POS but i took the advice here of many with no leaks and it was because mine was defective. I purchased a 2nd one, no leaks and updated the review.

case by case. Improvement on the primo but still not good. didn't help at all on the predator, rx300, pico 25. I think those are the only 4 i tried it on.

You just said that you don't test tc on the oscilloscope though. Thus, there's certainly a level of subjectivity in your tests, and possibly issues with how you do tc builds. I'm in no way a perfect builder, nor do I do any proper testing, but if mods that you regularly say can't do tc properly do tc perfectly fine for me then something's weird. I can't believe that you simply get bad devices and I good ones, all the time.

the issue is the oscilloscope doens't show everything. the oscilloscope doens't show a burnt hit or dry hit. it's why i stopped doing it. there is no standard way to correlate what it should fire with what's reading. it won't show long lasting consistency. It may work great for your build. the thing is as you said everyone builds different. to me a good temp control device handles every build. so when i do mine i vape on it with 2 "test builds" which are simple round spaced single and dual coil. and then at least 44-8 more fancy builds in dual and single coil depending which atomizers i have built at the time. i switch back and forth between them to make sure it works every time. vape one for a few hours, throw another one for a few hours, then another etc etc. do that over the span of weeks. If it can't do it every time, it doens't work. that's at least how i see things.

The point of the scope test for TC is to show if the device is using on/off pulsing to regulate temp, has a spiky TC or a smooth TC signal.

EDIT: The reason the above is important is that the on/off pulse is more like the old 33mhz "rattlesnake" vapes, the spiky curves are inaccuracies that have to be made up for with sudden spikes, while the smooth curve is an even smooth vape.

Hmmm... I hypothesize that all chips have to use an on/off pulse to maintain the set temperature. The only difference is the frequency of the ons and the offs. The less frequent, the more jagged the curve. The more frequent, the smoother the curve.

It's a lot like sampling in digital audio recording. Some people swear they can here the difference between CD quality 44.1 KHz and FM stereo quality 32 KHz (despite the fact that repeated testing shows that they really can't, but that's a different debate).

Somewhere on this device, I have a plot from NFE's Device Monitor of my Ikonn 220 driving a Moonshot 24. I'll dig it up.

Maybe you misunderstand what I mean. In temp control you set both a temp and a wattage. On ALL devices the wattage setting is used until the temp is reached. Now here is where things diverge. On some devices once the set temp is reached, 100% of the power is cut off from the coil (0w) until it cools down a bit then it fires again at the full set wattage to bring it back up to temp, then off again, and repeat. Those SUCK!!!!

On my DNA 75C it lowers the wattage as needed to maintain the temp. So say I have wattage set at 30w, it uses the set wattage (30w) to reach the right temp but then lowers and adjusts that wattage to maintain that temp so I may start out at 30w and end the puff at 10w and it may fluctuate between 10 and 15w as needed during the puff. At no point in there am I ever at 0w like the on/off devices are. This gives a significantly smoother vape and a more consistent temp across the puff time.

I understood, and I was mistaken. Actually, I was right in the head but wrong in the translation between head and mouth (that happens a lot).

Here's the plot with wattage set at 35, which is where I like the vape in power mode until I get the warning flavor.

And here's a shot with the mod set to 60

So, the device is doing what it's supposed to do--moderating the wattage to maintain temperature. It's just that some do the up/down more rapidly.

I oughta start a new thread on this so as not to derail this one (that can happen a lot with me, too).

the problem with that is it's just showing you output. there is no baseline of what it should look like and when. There is no baseline. sure it throttled, but is it still too much is it producing burnt cotton taste? who knows. also blowing on it occasionally ins't going to be the same as vaping on it. There is no way to actually vape on it while it's hooked up to a scope.

I mean perfect example is PWM which literally stands for pulse width modulation and it pulses batteries at full charge. you can look at the signal and say it doesn't look smooth, yet the vape is. SX mini mods known for being one of the best in temp control, use PWM so their signal looks a lit less "smooth" then say a DNA mod signal, yet the vape is very smooth. There isn't a machine out there that could actually test temp control in a 100% objective way. it makes for a good show in a video, but isn't really telling much

also on a sidenote, and don't take this the wrong way. the term "rattlesnake" is a joke. it's not an industry term, nobody uses it. it's something (EDITED) made up a long time ago to describe electrical chatter and people just repeat it, but it has no meaning.

it's not on/off per se (unless you are talking about SX mini chips in partuclar) but just the bucking of voltage. same way a UPS system would buck down voltage during a power spike to provide a clean 120 or 240, or 480 or 208 (whatever the UPS is designed for) even though utility is being pulsey. or in the case of a brown out when voltage drops the UPS would boost it up. that's why sensitive machines always have a UPS hooked up to them.

that's how all mods do it pretty much. some just suck at it

my only issue with those plots is all it tells you is what the chip says it's doing and not what it's really doing. same goes for evolv software. it doens't test anything it just reports data from the chip. Also feel free to keep it here. it's my thread and i have no issue with it. it's a good informative discussion

It's worrisome....the amount of time Phil, Todd, djlsb and, I'm sure, all the others, spend on not trying to prove they're superior reviewers to everyone else with a camera. If they want to succeed in this game, they need to start knocking and name dropping. If they think just putting out quality reviews is going to get them noticed, they're wrong.

Dude, you should be ashamed and embarrassed.
