Heh, not sure you could teach my French Bulldog too much. He is very stubborn, but the cuteness lets him get away with murder. Anyway, here is dripping 101:
1. For a good LR 510, I recommend
these. That is exactly what I get and who I get them from because they are great atties and the company has always treated me very well. Get two or three of them. They also have a great variety of drip tips for low prices. Get two or three of those too.
2. If the atties come with plastic cartridges, they won't have filler in them. They are useless anyway, so throw them out. If you order the same ones I get, they don't waste the plastic anyhow so there is nothing to get rid of.
3. Wrap your lips around the larger open end of the atty and blow as hard as you can into a paper towel. There is a primer liquid inside it that will blow out the air holes in the bottom. Try to get rid of as much of that as possible. I've never known it to hurt anyone that vaped it, but it doesn't taste very nice. Dry the threads with a paper towel.
4. Screw the atty onto your device and drip 5 or 6 drops of your favorite liquid into it. Give it a few seconds to soak into the material inside. Attach your drip tip and take a drag. You should take somewhere between 4 and 7 drags before the flavor starts to change. At that point, drip 3 drops into the atty through the big hole in the drip tip. Try to drip them straight down so they don't stick to the inside of the drip tip and block the hole. You might get a little in your mouth if the hole gets stopped up. If it gets blocked, you can blow a couple of light puffs of air into the drip tip (without putting your lips on it) to clear the blockage. If you blow into with your lips around it you will cause it to leak from the bottom.
5. You should now get between 5 and 10 drags (depending on how long you press the button) before needing to add more. Add 3 drops, vape, repeat, ad infinitum.
6. Try not to look disappointed in the decreased flavor/vapor of cartomizers, tanks, etc after dripping for awhile.
7. If you want to switch flavors in the atty, you can try a couple of things. First, you can just vape it until it starts to taste like it really needs more liquid, then put 3 drops of Unflavored in it. Vape. Put three more drops of Unflavored in when it becomes necessary. Vape. Usually, a couple of rounds of this will be enough to remove the flavor enough to prepare for a new one. Sometimes you may need to go another round or two. Second, if you really want you can blow out all the remaining juice inside the atty into a paper towel and just do a round or two of Unflavored if necessary. This is most convenient if you are using a very strong initial flavor.
Some notes:
You WILL cause your atty to flood, and you WILL cause it to leak from the bottom. Just keep a paper towel around for when this happens. Unscrew the atty and thoroughly dry the threads on both the atty and the device. If it is really flooded, you can blow through the big opening and get rid of some of the excess. The excess will end up burning out anyway. The reason I say this WILL happen is because there is a slight learning curve to getting it right. Even after dripping for over two years, I still do it from time to time. It is best to keep the atty wet though, and try not to burn it too dry. Dryness is not good for the atty, but you will be able to taste it when you need to change. Soon you will be able to anticipate this before it happens, and you will just be able to "feel" the proper balance.
Dripping should really only be done with manual batteries. I don't know of many people using automatic batteries anymore, but if your battery activates when you suck through the atty instead of when you push a button, then buy another battery! The automatics have a hole that runs through the battery and you don't want to get liquid in there.
Low Res atties don't really seem to have much of that "break in" period. If you use a standard 510 (usually 2.5 ohm or higher), you may notice that it does not produce much vapor at first. It usually takes a day or so for it to break in. Like I say though, I haven't really noticed this initial lack of vapor with the 1.5ohm LRs. Maybe just a little bit if any.
The bigger the hole in the drip tip, the better. That's why I like Super T's. They have big ol' holes that are EASY to drip through. If you find yourself blocking it up alot, it may be due to the size of the hole. It seems like the juice sticks more to the inside of plastic/delrin tips than metal, in my experience.
Even though there is a learning curve, you'll get it. Don't worry if you lose a few drops flooding it every once in awhile. You still won't lose near as much as you do when you can't get the last bit out of a cartomizer. I tend to actually use less juice dripping than I do with other methods. It seems to make more efficient use of liquid since just about every drop is going straight to the coil.
Ms T's juices are AWESOME for drippers. The fact that they are a little thicker keeps the leaking down (you may experience it more with PG based juices), and being thicker they tend to last for more drags as well. The flavor is amazing, and the clouds of vapor you produce will be astonishing.
If you don't want to waste alot of paper towels, use those (practically useless) paper napkins you always end up with a ton of from fast food restaurants. They work just as well.
I think that is about it, if anyone else has anything I forgot or failed to mention, please chime in!
