Thank everyone so much for your advice. The only reason I was using the patch is that the doctor prescribed them, and my insurance covered them 100%. But it's not helping with the mental addiction which is why I want to try the vapor. But after reading your suggestions and doing some additional research, I think I will nix the patches. The istick w/ the nautilus Mini sounds like a solid plan. Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to reply....I really appreciate it. Especially the good luck notes - I'll take all the luck I can get!

Nicotine or no nicotine, a decent box mod is the way to go.

I used patches and an e-cig (at the same time) before settling on e-cigs. It was how I quit and it was also the method recommended by the quit smoking adviser.
He recommended this as the cig-a-like product I was trying to use to quit was, in his words, "a waste of time (ineffective) and an a blatant rip-off"

$5,000 a year to not be satisfied and still have cravings is no way to go.

"Do what you have to do" to get free of the smoking. After that it's up to you.

Hi Melissa, and welcome to the ECF Forums! Let me also wish you good luck on your journey!

I'm not a fan of the built-in battery mods. Here's the why. You really need at least two, since mods ALWAYS seem to run out of power when it is least convenient. Also, as you progress or want to try something different, you leave the battery behind. For the price of two I-Stick 30w's, you are getting pretty close to the price of a single small Temp Control device like the Cloupor Mini+, 2 or 3 18650 batteries, and a 2 bay charger. WHEN (I'd say if, but for most, it really is when) you want to try something else, the batteries and charger are still valid and continue with you.

You don't mention where you are from. Are you here in the USA? Whatever you decide on, you can probably find the best price using this website. The search bar is hard to see, it is in the upper rh corner, but put in whatever you are looking for, and it will usually find close to THE best prices available anywhere. If you are in the USA, I may be able to help you further? :)

Hi there! So, today is my first day as a non-smoker. I am using a nicotine patch (which I got for free at the doctors office) but it is not helping my cravings for the actual ACT of smoking. I want to buy a very simple, inexpensive vape pen and 0% nicotine liquid.....but I have absolutely NO IDEA where to start. There are just so many types of everything related to vaping that it's just overwhelming to someone who knows nothing about it. I have no idea what any of the lingo means so I'm wondering if someone can point me in the right direction using "vape for dummies" terms. Lol. I just need something that will help with the hand to mouth cravings. I don't care about how much "cloud" comes out or anything like that. I need the simplest solution for someone who wants to use a vapor cig a handful of times throughout the day (when I get in the car, my first swig of coffee, at the bar when I'm drinking and others are smoking, etc). Thank you to anyone willing to offer me some advice! Cheers :)
Hi and welcome. Without getting too complicated, a simple cig-a-like and some 0 nicotine cartos PLUS get some nicotine cartos (suggest 12mg) and try without the patch and see which one works best for YOU. Economics demands I also suggest a simple vape pen type and two small 10 ml bottles (one 0 nic and one 12 mg) of any flavor your prefer (many ex-smokers go for a tobacco type flavor)...I started with a coffee flavor as I relate coffee to cigarettes BIG TIME and that was a big hurdle for me...whatever floats your boat for flavor though. Look over the other suggestions from the members here...they are all good options. Good luck!

I don't have an opinion on which is a better nicotine source, but vaping with nicotine is more intense, especially when using low powered devices. It gives the throat hit which feels like smoking.

EDIT: I do have an opinion on which is better for the nicotine effect, should have just said "Asides from ..." -- the patch is designed to constantly input nic to make smoking unappealing, vs. vaping is nic "on demand" which can allow it to continue to have desirable effects beyond making the need go away.

If you do get pen style device, I personally don't care for the cheapest ones with CE4 or CE5 type atomizers (usually clear outside, tapered, you've seen them), the CE4 is top coil which means they have wicking problems (burn the juice easily), and the (generic) CE5s I tried spit and leaked. The minimum, to me, is the original EVOD design by Kanger (generics can be fine). These also require a regulated or variable voltage (set low) type battery, some of the cheapest kits will drive the atomizers too hard and also burn the juice. The dual coil EVOD 2 I don't like as much but they can be good for non-tobacco flavors. Aspire also makes some well-regarded low end stuff such as the K1 atomizer. They also make the Nautilus which can be used in pen-style mode but tends to want just a little more power than that.

I agree on the mini nautilus with 1.6 or 1.8 bvc coils and an istick 30w. I went through a buying frenzy when I first started vaping and could never quite get the satisfaction I needed to quit. If I was on here I would've saved a lot of money and frustration. I have all kinds of mods now, sub ohm, Tc, etc but I have come back to my mini and istick lately. I have never had any problems with the mini nautilus leaking. It is certainly one of the best starter vapes. I also just recently bought an endura T18 for a grab and go vape. Nothing to mess with. You just fill it up and vape it. It gives great flavour and surprisingly a good amount of cloud. It is supposed to be one of the best "beginner" kits out there right now that mimics smoking the most. I personally like the built in battery mods because I don't want to have to carry batteries around and I found I was charging them daily and being a bit paranoid, I was constantly going over to the charger to make sure everything was ok lol. I vape about 6ml a day or more and my istick 30 lasts the whole day and my istick 50 lasts 2 days so I am happy with them.

Good Luck and welcome! Like you I did the patches, I made it about 6 weeks and friends started to see me crack. Hubby come home with a gas station ecig and I saw hope. There started the journey, it has been around 3 years now and I feel a ton better. The nautilus is a great tank btw, you might go with different batteries or devises but that is a solid tank that should do well by you.
