I'm looking to get one of the R80's (buddy of mine found them online and forwarded it to me)
I've combed through countless sites looking for good information on these pipes and haven't found any actual reviews.
Does anyone have one of these?

http://www.fasttech.com/products/1559000

the above has been the only site that has better info, but I'd like to hear from people that have them personally.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!:D

There seems to be two brands/models - the Anxinheng/Ango R80, and the Smaild/Idears R80. Without both side by side - what the differences are, I haven't a clue. You can read the FT forum link that Olddawg refers to, that discusses this variation here.

The Ango R80 sample I briefly inspected seemed fairly well made, although firing was slightly intermittent with a 2.0Ω carto. The reason, I believe, is the pin-to-armature (for lack of a better description) contact from the battery/button case to the 510/eGo connector - which is what allows that connector assembly to make contact through it's arc of rotation - had inadequate tension, or just simply dirty.
I probably could have improved this condition if I'd had more time to fully disassemble and properly inspect/clean, but I had to give it back. I understand there is a wired connection internally, but again, no time to get in too deep.

The contact method I refer to can be clearly seen in the upper right photo, below.

Assorted second hand information - You have room only to run cartos & clearos (15mm or less) when in the upright or sidewinder mode. You can (if you are of a mind to do something weird, like run a Kayfun), run larger diameter attys with an extender to provide clearance - but only in pipe mode.
With an 18350, you have to use a fuse or magnet spacer to make button contact. 18500/650 is fine with or without.

I certainly wouldn't want to dissuade you from buying one - they are a conversation piece, neat novelty and a cheap sidewinder/pipe. I say cheap because Venerable Vaping had them for $17, but they're out now.

Here's another shot... in a sort of pipe mode, with a Kanger mini PT2.

I just bought one from PBDragon.com (They're a listed U.S. vendor here at ECF).

Paid $40. Includes 2 batteries, a M4 style clearomizer and a charger. (Used coupon code: ECF10 for 10% off which basically gave me free shipping.) Only other reputable U.S. vendor I could find that carries it is Myfreedomsomkes but they want $60 for the same kit.

Sorry, I took the last Black one. I'm not really into pipe mods but was looking at the dual functionality of this thing. I'm hoping with sidewinder abilities it has a bit of stealth built in. Plus it can use ego and 510 attys.

I was looking at the MicroStick but:
A.) They are never in stock
B.) They cost $160
C.) Limited atomizer hole diameter

So, we shall see how this thing fares. It might be crap but I'll give it a go for $40.

Keep me informed of how the R80 is working out. I'm thinking of getting one for my collection as well. I like the compact size and the price is good too. Win-win IMO. Don't get me wrong. I'm currently piecing together a long pipe like a Gandolph but I'm finding that pipes fit my mood so a compact R80 might be just what I need!!!

Even at $60 for the kit I think it's a great price. Batteries alone cost over $10. Plus a tank and charger. At $40 you practically got the pipe mod for free. Way to go!!!!:toast:

It will be at least a week after I get it. Unlike Amazon reviewers (and some folks here) I like to try things out for more than 3 minutes before pronouncing it THE BEST THING I EVA BOUGHT!!! :D

I know what you mean and I hate to say that I am guilty of it. Nothing like getting something and saying you love it only to have it fail in the first week of use. That's why I want to know how it goes. It looks great and seems like a good mod but I'm curious about how durable it is especially since it seems to be a "keep in your pocket" type of thing. Be nice to carry something small in my pocket when I go out but wonder if it can handle that without breaking. Thanks a bunch Kodiak!!!:toast:

Ok, I guess it's been about a week using the R80 folding e-pipe.

It came with everything advertised for $40. The batteries are crap though. Within an hour, the 18350 started to leak and burned up the supplied 2 cent fuse one needs to use with this small battery. And since they only ship one fuse I've been using the 18650. Which incidentally lasts me about 25 hours of chain vaping on this thing. Too bad the pipe looks silly in this mode. I'm waiting on more fuses so I can get this thing back down to size.

The unit is well built. Almost too well built because it's very heavy and you can really feel it in a pants pocket. The pipe stem does kind of "lock" slightly when extended and folded so that's nice. (again, slightly). The beauty shaft/ring that screws onto the stem to cover clearomizers is just another part to lose so I took it off and have just been using the pipe with a mini vivi nova or an EVOD. Both work well and fold fully flush against the battery housing. I'm not a fan of the locking thumbwheel. It's just too small for me to get it to spin with one hand/thumb.

I am/was toying with getting a "kick" for the R80 but now I'm throwing more money than I really want to at it. Overall, it vapes just like any other fixed voltage mod or an ego. Didn't expect anything different. Again, it's well built and solid. I've dropped it 3 times on concrete already and nary a scratch.

That said, I wouldn't pay $60 for it. $40 yes (as long as all the batteries worked).

After a month now with the R80, I'm going to back-pedal a bit and give this thing a glowing performance review. This has been my main mod now and it goes with me everywhere. Plus I use it exclusively at home unless I'm dripping. Looks and works great with black Evods. (I took the pipe stem collar off and don't use it). The Evod folds flush against the body. (As a lot of other things would I'm sure).

I can easily and consistently get by with two 18350 batteries per day (AW IMR). I start with a fresh one and might swap it out about 5PM which gets me into the next day if I wanted. A good 5 hours before I notice any voltage drop and if I have to I can go another 2. this is heavy vaping too. I'm about to use my 2nd battery as I write this and I've been using the current one since 8 this morning which is about 8 hours. Really pleased with battery life as spare 18350's are so small and easy to carry.

At first, I thought the "fuse" would be a pain in the ... but I've been using the same one for a month now. Plus, my mod is at least protected. The cheap battery they shipped with my R80 leaked and fried the only fuse that came with it. But those batteries are in the trash now and the fuses are $3 each.

I've had to tighten the screws on the stem once so far. They will work themselves slightly loose over time because of the folding action. Only takes a few seconds. But again, this thing is built like a tank. Not sure what it's made of but it's not lightweight aluminum. Drop it on your foot and you'll feel it. Has that "last forever" kind of heft to it. Hard to describe. And of course, mech mods don't have too many moving parts but the button spring inside works just like new as does the firing button itself (which I believe is stainless steel).

But my favorite thing about this mod though is the folding action and the ability to stealth vape when folded. I walk around everywhere with it fully cupped in my hand and it's completely hidden. Just today I adorned some empty aisles at Wal-Mart with the fragrance of Vanilla Tobacco. I doubt even video footage picked that up. (Just some guy picking his nose :D).

I'm going to pick up another one if I can find it in black again. (Most are sold out). Really glad I didn't get a MicroStick because all I wanted it for was stealth vaping. The R80 does that even better IMO plus it has ego/510 threads and you don't need to finagle your tank into a hole like the MircoStick or even the $10 Gripper.

Hey King!

I think the Evod was made for it. When in stealth mode the mouth piece of the Evod is just high enough to keep a finger on the fire button and still get your lips around it:

photo 1.jpg

On the coils... I wrap right at 2.0 - 2.2 ohms. (1.8 ohms and less runs a little hot for me).

I also discovered something just yesterday. That little fuse can be thwarted by a tiny magnet. This isn't a new discovery by me mind you but I could never find those magnets easily and those I did find online cost a fortune. So, I'm at Home Depot in the screw aisle (working on some nonsense for Mrs. Kodiak), when I find a pack of 10 tiny magnets for like $4. They are about the diameter of a watch battery and the same thickness as the fuse. Work great. (Remember, the R80 cannot use an 18350 without making it about 2 mm longer. The fuse does this as does the magnet).

I got mine here for $40. But they have no black ones. Use coupon code: ECF10 for 10% off. Might offset the shipping at least.

I've used these folks a couple of times and they're reputable.

Man, sounds great! I might take a look at my B&M to see if they might carry one, or even Craigslist as well. It's gonna be a while before I can purchase one still (waiting on taxes), but I'm deffinitely wanting one.

I have a blue R80 and I love it. I slapped a mini-ProTank 2 on it with some Lemon Drop from Mt Baker Vapor in it. I bought some extended drip tips from MadVapes to make it more Pipe-like.

You want to know the real reason to get one? It's heavy and has a little foot on the back of it. Even with a full ProTank 2 mini and the three inch long drip tip, it sits on the desk without flopping over. It's the only pipe mod I've seen that stands up on it's own so no cradle required!

For $30-$40, it's a great little device.

I've been trying to find where I could buy the clearomizer that goes with this pipe style mod. It's listed as

mini clearomizer (chromed brass + Polycarbonate)

I didn't use it when the product arrived (months ago) because it's looks attractive and I figured it's just another unreliable CE4 that leaks and with the frequent burnt taste issues. I got curious and gave it a try. It was just fine. I'd certainly prefer it over cartos or huge tanks that require large amounts of liquids.
