My hubby's cousin lived in Christchurch for about a dozen years of so; working on her doctorate/post-doctorate in Microbiology (Fungi and such), and working for Lincoln University (think I have the name right?). I've never been to the South Island; I visited in June, 1989, during winter and spent the whole time traveling Northland. I loved it there, and if I had no family ties over here I'd live there in a heartbeat. Beautiful country and wonderful people! The
three things I learned in NZ were: Marmite tastes better than Vegemite, Hokey-Pokey ice cream is addictive, and L&P is an acquired taste. Oh, and to order "chips and tomato sauce" and not "fries and ketchup" at McDonald's.
