Hey all. I'm very new to mixing my own liquids. Without giving enough forethought (referencing recipes) I picked up a few flavors I thought I might enjoy just to get started quickly. These are the flavors I have:

Maple (TFA)
Caramel V2 (CAP)
Boston Cream Pie V2 (CAP)
Vanilla (LA)

I've been experimenting with different mixes of the above for the last 5 days.
All bases were 70vg/30pg. I haven't added nicotine to anything as of yet.
I've tried various combinations of these flavors at mixes ranging from 5-15% of each (not sure if it's necessary to post every example).

I just haven't been even remotely happy with any of the results. I've also given each mix some time to steep naturally (about 4 days), and I let mixes with the maple get some exposure to air daily to try and lose the alcohol flavor -which seems to work.

Can anyone suggest a combination for these flavors that would work well? I'm not being picky at this point. I'd just like to make the most of what I have to work with -minimizing waste. For the time being I'd be thrilled to end up with anything that tastes better than a combination of plain donut batter and rubbing alcohol...

Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

To help you test some combinations without wasting much, if any, you might want to do a very tiny (<5 mL) sample batch of each combo you try. Take a look at how to do Bill's Magic Vapor 100DT (100 drop test).

Using Bill's 100DT Taste Test Method | E-Cigarette Forum

It's an extremely helpful test to do IMO, to "tweak" a recipe or combo you're trying. Be sure to take notes on any changes you make while you're doing the test, so when you "hit" that perfect taste...you'll be able to make a larger batch that will taste exactly like it!

I use it with every recipe I try. Just used it last night to test 3 more. Once I got them just right...made larger bottles of each one. :)

Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Those are All Good Flavors. And they Work Well with Each Other. And with Other "Brown" Flavors.

My only Suggestion is to go Easy on the Vanilla. Many Vanilla flavorings can Easily Overpower whatever they are used with.

You may want to add a graham cracker, cake or cookie flavor to the lineup. Your dealing with all similure accents and don't really have a base or foundation flavor.

Is there more info on what you call a "base" or" foundation" flavor , i have read tons of stuff including the blog's but don't really get this concept or how necessary it is.

Basically a base is your primary flavor or the foundation of the mix your trying to make. A note or accent are just that flavors, that enhance the base and build the mix. For instance. Lets say you want to make a desert vape based on a vanilla or chocolate layer cake. You would use a cake or cake batter flavoring as your primary (Base) flavor which would require the highest percentage of flavoring. This would give you that moist, thick cake like texture. Now lets say you want that cake to have a nice vanilla or chocolate frosting on it. You would then use as your accent that flavor (Chocolate or vanilla) at a lower percentage to give it that flavor but still retain that moist, thick cake like texture. Now Lets say you want a fresh strawberry topping on the cake. You would add strawberry at the least percentage to just give it that note without over powering the cake or frosting taste (Minor Accent or Note).

So an example recipe may be

10% cake flavor (Base)
5% Vanilla (Accent)
2% strawberry (Minor accent or note)

That's what base, accents and notes are.

Thanks for all of the advice and links everyone; very much appreciated. I have a long way to go yet..hehe

@WoodChucker That mix didn't come out too badly; far better than anything I produced prior to it, that's for sure! I suspect that with a touch of sweetener it would be pretty nice, but with what I had to work with, not too shabby, thanks! I'm planning on experimenting with ethyl maltol when I make my next order.

@dannyv45 Thanks for explanation. I'm absolutely gaining an appreciation for how finely nuanced of a craft this is. All I need now is time...and a whole lot more supplies. Also, your blog entries have been great reads. Thanks!

So, my first round of experimenting was a bit of a train-wreck. I was expecting that. Onward and upward.
Oddly enough one of the mixes reminded me somewhat of cola; like a vanilla coke. I wasn't expecting that at all. I'm guessing the caramel/vanilla mix brought it there. Not a -good- vanilla coke, but ya know...
