Hey everyone,
Can you guys take a look and see why I'm getting a harsh throat feeling when i take a vape? I use the Aromanier RDTA with a dual coil .5ohm build. I used KDG cottons with the build. My juice is 70/30 VP/PG. I shouldn't be getting that much of a throat hit. Maybe too little or too much cotton? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry I don't know why my picture is sideway when it uploaded.

Cheap nic? Cotton/coil needs changing/cleaning ?

I used nicotine from liquidbarn vs vaporstek.... The liquid barn nic was very harsh.... I switched it back to vaporstek and it was smooth smooth smooth

The second culprit for me is the coil getting gunked up and the cotton needs changing... Id suggest u try horizontal build or clean out the coil and change the cotton, u can go try stuffing 2-3 times the diameter of the coil with cotton, besides these two reasons... I dont really know why u getting harsh hit, because these two are the main reason i get a harsh throat hit

But definitely try a horizontal build

I have a similar build: 0.8Ω, dual verticals. First time with that same build, I had more wicking above the posts and it seemed to deliver better flavor without getting harsh or getting that "burnt" edge. I've had to dial back the wattage to avoid it. On my next build, I'm going back to having more wicking above the coils, combed into the center.

Take a look at the upper coil. The last wrap at the bottom, closest to the mod, is not touching the wick. That wrap could be a bit dry and be burning juice.

ill just post my thoughts on this RDTA here... I have been vaping and building for a year or so now... all sorts of devices. I bought the aromamizer based on hype and reviews I read here. I was sorely let down. either I get way muted or no flavor, or I just get harsh hits. I have tried all sorts of builds, verts, horizontals, 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm ID, 5 wraps to 10 wraps per coil. I ran SS 316l, SS 304, Kanthal and Nichrome. I tried claptons, I tried twisted builds. 2 strand and three strand parallels. 30G through 22 G... wicked it tight, wicked it loose. wicked with cotton balls, KGD, Cotton bacon and Rayon. sometimes I would get an acceptable vape for a while, but never for a full tank. I DIY my juice and have tried a couple different NIC bases in the juices... same DIY bottle in this tank compared to one of my other tanks is a complete different and disappointing vape. I have sanded the bottom deck to line the holes on the coils. I drilled out the air holes a touch. I ran all 4 holes open and only two holes open... I have posted in the dedicated thread for this tank multiple times and people were very helpful in there with advise...

But sadly, nothing has worked for me. I have not gotten any where near the vape from this thing as I get from my Indulgence MT or my crown. Hell I even got bored and pulled out my old retired STM adn got a better vape off it...

I believe that this tank just plain dosent work for SOME people and I happen to be one of them. it is a nicely made tank, I love the style and size. The build deck is great. But I just cannot for the life of me get a good vape out of it...

the build looks ok

try rewicking it make sure the wick is snug in the coils and cut level with deck fan and fluff before tucking and make sure the only just touch the deck trim tops just above posts juice the wick and try if needed with tweezers grab the tops of wicks and lift very slightly then retrim

if still harsh try different juice with lower nic

good luck

I've been building on this atty for about 2 months, and at first I was not thrilled either. I've tried macro coils, horizontal and vertical, claptons, twisted, fused claptons from .15 to .7 ohms. I've come to believe that for maximum flavor, horizontal is the way to go. My current and favorite build is dual fused claptons, 38KA1 over 2x28N80 6/7 wraps at 0.23 ohms tightly wicked with KGD fluffed and barely touching the wicking holes. Air holes are lined up with coils and posts. All 4 open. I run this at around 70-75w and it has great vapor and flavor. No dry hits, ever. I dry burn and rewick 1x per week. That's at about 1.5 tanks per day.

I put the exact same build in a Twisted Messes RDA and I can run it hotter that way, like 100w and it does have a little more flavor that way, but also spits more so that may contribute to the flavor. Really, it's so close at 70w I keep choosing the Aromamizer when I leave the house. It's just an amazing vape.

Thanks for all the inputs guys. So these are new cotton so only a day old. So what I got from all the suggestions are:

-have the wick stick above the post a little
-add more wick (if I add more, I can't pull the cotton through. It starts to rip)
-have the tail barely touching the juice holes
-lower nic (my nic is 6mg currently)
-try horizontal coils

I'll try to rebuild it tonight and see.

before ya rip that build out try rewicking as i suggested
cotton needs to be pretty snug fit through the coils and fanned and fluffed at the base and only just touching the deck and as in my previous pic and as hans says do not trim to close off the top ya need a couple of mm and as for the air holes if you can line up two so you can look through and see the coils the other two will align with the posts then its upto you if you open only 2 ie the coil ones or all 4

as seen in this pic you need to fluff the wick before you tuck it under the coils and into the well so it can pic up juice from both juice holes and covers more surface area in the base but it must not be packed in tightly just light so the juice can flow easily

takes a little practice with either horizontal or vertical coils just how much wick to put in the base but once you get it right both will wick great and no dry hits

some people prefer horizontal some prefer verts i just think with verts when done right there is less chance of disturbing the wick each time you refill

it looks better

can you spread the bottom of the wick any wider

it still kinda looks like it needs to be wider at the base

when putting the wick in go in at the top down and pull out under the coil ,trim off tight to side of atty base, then tease ie spread it out like a fan ,then gently tuck it in to the base starting at one side and work your way across to the other side ,do not push it down to tight , trim tops just above posts , juice it up by dripping juice on the tops over the coils and down at the roots ie base ,keep adding juice drip by drip until it just wont hold anymore then screw on tank and vape.

Okay yea thats how i wick it. From the top down than fan it as much as it allowed. Than I just add juice to it to prime it. On the next cotton change, I'll see if i can widen the fanning more.
