Any US users - where to purchase PG?

Hi,

After spending many days researching e-cigs on this forum, I have decided to make the switch. I ordered my e-cig kit & most supplies, but haven't been able to figure out where to buy PG in the US. I had planned on diluting my TW e-liquid.

I did find someone on ebay who sells PG, but it is safe-labeled, which makes me a little hesitant. And there are no tractor supply stores around here - I couldn't find any on the web either. Which incidently seems so odd to purchase it from there. : p

Any help appreciated!

In addition, does anyone know the "throat hit" comes from nicotine or favor? In other words, if I want the throat hit and taste of the cig favor like marlboro, would diluting reduce the throat hit?

I shake it like it's hot. Like I'm playing with a Mariachi band. Like I'm... well you get the picture.

Yes, diluting it will effect throat hit. I'll be working on that later this week, when a package I'm expecting arrives. Stay tuned to the Lab...

I'll definately be staying tuned. I've got information overload at this point. There's just too much information in too many places on this site. I tried to retain the info on the recipe thread, but there were too many variations, lol.

My plan was to buy 36mg TW & superdilute it - I'm thinking 3 parts PG to 1 part TW? But I didn't take into account the flavor/throat hit. I don't even know if that matters to me anymore. As long as I get my nicotine & the sensation of breathing through a contraption.

Can any of luann's flavorings compensate? Is there a menthol flavoring?

I was thinking of getting 36mg and making it as 18mg. I wasn't sure it would be the same as regular 18mg.

TW's menthol is pretty damn strong to begin with. I love it!

You can buy menthol crystals fairly cheaply. That'd probably be the easiest way to 'mentholize' your DIY blend if the flavor turns out too weak.

If my math is correct 1 part 36mg TW to 3 parts PG will give 12mg PG and you will have three times as much. This is exactly what I'm planning to do only with VG. I'm also planning on getting some 6ml drip bottles so I can make a few different flavors and stretch my nicotine.

It would be one part TW to 2 parts PG. If you go 2 parts VG, it might be too thick to wick. Give it a shot... you may need to add just a little (very little) of distilled water.

Today I went to the pharmacy in my local supermarket and asked at the counter for propylene glycol. They put in an order for a 16 oz bottle which should arrive tomorrow and will cost me around $10. Easy enough.

You can add menthol crystals. Simply drop one or two in (depending on the size of the bottle you are mixing up), and you've got menthol.

I am getting really confused. I read a menthol recipe somewhere on here that needed pg/and or vg, menthol crystals, distilled water AND alcohol. I have bought 96% alcohol now and can't find the recipe. Help! May as well use it if I have it. Is it to help preserve the life of the atomiser thingamibob?

Mag, there were many posts before that spoke of all sorts of complicated measures to use menthol crystals, including heating things up and using alcohol, etc.

But many of us found it can really be as simple as dropping your menthol crystal in and letting it dissolve for a while.

As for the alcohol, some use it instead of distilled water in thinning glycerine, or for other reasons too (taste?), but if you're using glycerine to mix with commercial liquid, or even in making your own 0mg liquid with some PG as well, you may not need to dilute with anything else. It's really only when you are using just glycerine as your base, that you do need to thin it some.

Yvilla - is the sample size of menthol adequate to start? I see they sell by the lbs. which is $$ (and also out of stock anyway).

I'm glad to hear alcohol isn't needed. For some reason the thought of "freebasing" alcohol disturbs me, lol. I think there was a time when there was a fad at bars where they introduced alcohol inhalation, and it wasn't pretty. It had much more severe effects than drinking alcohol. Even though I know we're talking about a small amt. of alcohol in comparison...but I guess doing it day after day in small amts doesn't sit right with me. Maybe I'm just paranoid.

Monkey, I got the sample size of menthol crystals there, and it's plenty. But I bought it there because I was also buying my PG and glycerine there. There are other places you can find with a Google search that sell small amounts too.
