Seriously, though, try a little bit bigger nail and don't be quite as gentle when you hit it ;-) I had that problem at first, so I stopped worrying about punching too far and made sure that first whack was a little bit heftier. After a while, you get a feel for how hard you need to hit it and you'll have less troubles.

Well, I tried a bit bigger nail, with a bit bigger whack. A bit too big. Now Superman just goes gurgle gurgle gurgle.
Managed to rip up one of the o-rings inserting the carto as well, so I've got a leak.

Go buy yourself a self-piercing tap valve at Home Depot. It makes punching alot easier for $8.
I prefer slotting too more control over the size of the hole bigger for VG smaller for PG that and less bent nails
The Clouds of Vapor tool is very much worth it. Makes punching a breeze forever. Unlike a saddle tap which will dull very quickly.
When is the saddle valve supposed to dull? I have punch at least 50 cartos and mine is still sharp and working great.
As long as the material you're punching is softer then the material punching the hole it'll last a very long time.
Oh, I bought the cheapest one at Home Depot for $4.
Mine started to dull on the first on second carto. I learned to sharpen it to a slight curve, like an ax type grind. After that it stays good for 15-20 and only needs a slight touch-up.
