This may sound stupid, but I find sometimes if I write, think them out loud and share them with others, I can sometimes answer my own questions. The question is, high wattage people, any of you ever get a sore throat and/or cough after a few days of vaping at say 70+ watts? I got my new set up- an Atlantis v2 and sigelei 150 recently and I've been chain vaping the .3 coil at 80 watts. Today I have a minor sore throat and cough. So I'm trying to determine if it's that, nickel (I do temp control on my other set up) or allergies. Please share your experiences!

I vape at 105 watts (kanthal) and the closest thing i got to a sore throat was when i was thirsty and i took a puff. Wasnt a pleasant experience. :)

Awesome thread! I was actually wondering about this myself. After a few days of sub ohming and chain vaping on some very yummy juices I noticed a bit of a cough and some mucous. No sore throat though, and the cough isn't really a bad hacking cough and it only happens a few times a day. The mucous is usually either white or clear. I also experienced a bit of heaviness in my chest. Not really making it hard to breath... Kinda hard to explain... Like my lungs were full or something.... I also was getting a very mild headache.
I backed off on the chain vaping and lowered the voltage a little bit and started drinking more liquids (water and juice) and everything has been fine.

    Said it a million times, those that vape a hot vape will eventually pay a price. You simply can't do that and not cause damage to your throat. Wattage isn't the culprit tho', if you have enough air flow & wicking to keep the temperature down the only difference between low wattage & high wattage will be volume of the vape.
    There is also a fine line between the temperature that will irritate your throat, and the temperature that doesn't.

    Google tongue bite from pipe smoke, this also causes throat irritation. I smoked a pipe for a while until my throat couldn't handle the harsh bite from something. Pipe tobacco generally has some degree of PG in it as a preservative.

    I get mild throat irritation after heavy vaping a.5 ohm coil at 30 watts on 50/50 mix. I'm starting to wonder if it's not the heat coupled with PG. My irritation isn't as bad with vaping, but it still shows up from time to time after heavy vaping.

    I absolutely can't use premium juices that run anything over 50% PG.

    Sure, tailoring your juice for the way you vape is as much of a balancing act as temperature and wattage is.

    Also remember that "temperature control" only controls the wattage of the vape. (lowers the wattage to maintain the maximum temperature it will allow) It has NO control of the minimum temperature it will allow. It also has no control of the amount of liquid at the coil.

    well if you setup is 70 watts but you are using temperature control you really don't know what wattage you are really using.

    TJ what you said makes a lot of sense. So then the temp control vaping could be a culprit in which case I need to lower my temp? Lol I'm actually vaping 3mg. Now, I do have a slightly runny nose which again makes me think this could be allergic (non-vape related).

    3mg/ml x 70 watts = 210 mg watts/ml
    Nicotine wise that is equivalent to vaping 21mg strength at 10 watts.
    Seems on the higher side of things to me.
    I vape that sometimes but too strong to be chain vaping.

    I use 2 different mods, one has temp control the other does not. Temp control I run in joules anywhere from 20 to 40 with the temp from 430 to 455. The second set up is a Sigelei with a v2 Atlantis that I have been using the .3 coil at 70 to 80 watts. This is a much harder hotter hit on my throat so I suspect it could be a culprit as I just started vaping this high when I got it. But again I do have undiagnosed allergic issues that can flare when I go to the park.

    If you are new to vaping, vaping 70 watts on just about any existing tank is probably going to be giving you some degree of dry hit;
    dry hit = definitely hot, definitely hard, and definitely lots of throat hit.

    starting slow and moving up helps acclimatise the tastebuds so you can tell the difference between nicotine throat hit versus toxic dry hit.

    at high wattage you need serious wicking for the juice to flow to the coil; harder with a tank than with an rda

    ====disclaimer===
    and this coming from somebody who still vapes 8 to 20 watts.

    I thought it was 3mg per ml no matter what watts you vape at? Does increasing wattage really increase mg per ml? Sounds odd to me?o_O

    The higher the wattage, the more liquid will be vaporized/hit. For example for me vaping 12mg @ 8 watts and 6mg @ 20 watts is about the same amount of nicotine/hit. Of course lung capacity will have a great deal of influence on how to figure this out for each individual.

    The better device (such as subohm rdas and what not) + high wattage = more vapor/ml per hit you get.
    Drippers and subohming in general requires lower nic because they're more efficent at delivering the nicotine. :)

    I use 12mg in tanks and 3/6mg in dripper else i'm choking myself/overnicking very easily. :p

    I vape 50/50. When chain vaping over a long period of time, I once accidentally tasted it. That runny nose is not mucous. It is condensed VG.
