Anyone else tried replacing Protank coil flavour wicks with Ekowool?

I was cleaning one of my Protank heads and noticed my 1mm Ekowool was about the size of both flavour wicks together, so I torched it (the Ekowool seems to have some manufacturing residue or...something, on it, smells a bit funky) and snipped a piece and tucked it in on top of the coil and wick, where the stock flavour wicks were. Primed it, reassembled, fluffed the ends, put it all back together.

And wouldn't you know, it works really well. First few toots, huh, slightly tighter, smoother draw, not bad. And then gradually as things soaked up, holy cow, vapour is thicker, flavour is a bit more intense, along the lines of a top-wick clearo. I promptly swapped out the flavour wicks in two other Protank-head devices (an Evod and a sigelei PT1 clone), and have been impressing myself trying each of them. So far I've tried two 50/50 liquids and one 80% VG, solid results, no gurgling, no dry hits. These are all authentic 1.8ohm Kanger coils (registering at 1.8, 1.9 and 2.0, respectively) and I'm firing them at 7.5 watts.

I guess the real test will be in the morning after they've been soaking up juice all night, who knows, I might wake up to a wet table or gurgles, but so far I'm really, really pleased with the results. I've tried all the other Protank coil tips; ditch the wicks altogether, flip the silicone cap, only one wick, you name it, and this is really a different league. I'm guessing it has to do with the hollow core on the Ekowool, but I'm no engineer.
