it's all about the design man. there has to be a reason to build it yourself. if you're going to build something that already exists then just check out what's out there for ideas, but for it to even be worth building it in my opinion it should be different and better in some way than anything out there to even justify building it.

problem is, you are not going to know what you do and don't like about existing mods unless you get your hands on some various high end mods in the first place and vape. don't try to reinvent the wheel, just try to change what you don't like and add what you do... but naturally without some experience with various mods you don't have enough information to even know what you want to build. I'd suggest getting your hands on some equipment and vape for a while and then your pet peeves will surface and then you'll know what you can do to build something better than you can buy.

That's just like you opinion, man. For me firing up the lathe and cutting some metal is what it's all about. Then the gratification of blowing clouds after I made it....sweeet! :vapor:

umm, yeah, I know, says so right there:

incase you didn't know, that's kinda the whole point of a forum in the first place, the sharing of opinions and ideas... if I'm not mistaken that's what the OP was looking for in the first place, no?

Didn't mean to ruffle feathers with this post, just wanted to try to turn someone's idea into a reality and have a unique piece. I'm already building a couple of one off atty's and want to step up and test my skills. I love a good challenge.

So; what do you mean by test your skills? What machines do you maintain a competency with? Lathe? Mill? Hob? Angle Blade? CNC or Manual? I personally am very fond of sleek even lines or full cooling fin configuration. I think a lock mechanism similar to a kamry but recessed into the switch connector would be pretty cool. I do a lot of machine work on the fly or with draft prints scribbled on cocktail napkins. I was trained on machines by an old school manual machinist and have only ever worked with CNC in production shops. Maintaining a 0.002" tolerance on old loose lathe is certainly a testament of skill.

I agree with Turbocad for the most part. It really is gratefuying making something you came up with yourself, even if it's a slight tweak to someone else's design.

Take the caravela, it's nothing special as far as design goes. IMO the thing about the vela and similar mods is the simplicity and quality of the machining and materials used.

I have dozens of designs of various mods modeled up in 3D that you could start cutting on tomorrow. Besides that I like making things and that they might not be what your looking for, you could just be trooling looking to make a quick buck. I'm not saying you are, but once something goes out it's really hard to real it back in regardless of lawyers and etc.

My suggestion is find something you like, figure out how it works, and try making it. As you go you will figure out what works for you, both how the mod works and what your and the machines capabilities are and things will evolve from there.

You guys have a good point. Guess I'm gonna build a few prototypes and give them away on this forum to prove I'm not trying to make a quick buck. I just enjoy building stuff and wanted to help a few people out. That's why this post started in the new members forum.

desk1%, I have a ton of respect for you working the lathe to 2 thou, so mad props!

I'd doesn't really have to be different it has to be better, I just built a bottom feeder, it looks like a bottom feeder, all look the same pretty much. Mine however is ambidextrous, smaller, and built for very low ohm builds, I'm still just playing around with it and it's already showing better numbers than any other BF I know of and the popular ones won't even handle low ohms. I like sub ohm coils, and I vape like 15ml per day. Thru a carto tank, I don't even know how many times in going to have to refill my 10ml tank, bigger than most as well...
Anyways, do it well, and make something you like, that's what I think at least. Good luck bud.

If you can build a piece of junk, and have fun doing it... Great! If make one better, even better!
Don't let anyone discourage you from making something because you might not make the best one ever. (And perhaps you will)
Some people enjoy making things, others just like having the "best" and acting snooty about it.
If I built a mech that was almost as good as some other one, I'd be happy because I made it myself. The guy that spent a lot of cash for the better one might still want to tell you how flawed yours is.
I look forward to building inferior mods! Making is just as fun as vaping!
