Other times it was in plant machinery. Then he moved from boiler suit to 2pce suit, mobile phone & Filofax ..became a global trouble-shooter and trainer of engineers.
All KHD Deutz engines.

Does sound rather nice! :) I'll wait until you try it in a tank!

We're still talking about the MBV one? I may find it useful as I want to find something similar to the Wakonda ...I could add the Vanilla Tahity (almond vanilla), and get some Maple syrup flavour ...and ......

Yup, the city traders would have had nothing on us ..struck with ruthless abandon!

He's certainly been a busy one your Hubby. I see the pics are marine engines. First time I saw one in the flesh I was amazed how big they are

I'll let you know once it goes in a tank Trisha.

Yep the MBV one Trisha. It's not really hitting the spot for me anymore.

You lot were like greased lightning

Just noticed your sig - if you add too many it will say you have exceeded your limit quicker than you think - changing the colour/different font etc takes up a lot of space - I found that out the hard way :)

That's why I keep mine in plain black font too Bob. I still have to delete things though, when I need to add something else - a bit like stock rotation

Well my LT order arrived already. The nic solution has gone straight into a dark spot for next weeks mixing. I can really see the colour difference, comparing it to my old nic solition.

Might actually get my Odin soon too. Tracking updated yesterday night, to arrived in the UK :D

Finally, the last order from FT that was expected to ship in 10 days, is now in packaging, after only 2 or 3 days. Way to go FT :)

----------------------------

Don't think I'll be on later. I'm working til about midnight tonight :(

So it will probably be tomorrow before I pop in again.

They just said watch the site for any notices, but seeing as they have been delayed I think they are aware and will be waiting for the issue to be fixed before getting them in from the maker, who will probably not want to send out dodgy units and destroy his good rep.

Read on another forum last night Bob they are here.
They were just doing a build to try out that heat censor thingy. And would post a review somewhere or other,it was getting late.Haven't had a chance to look today

Just been tracking a parcel from FT and it shows

a picture of said parcel sat on what looks like a sorting machine with

an ir scan line through the bar code ... cant make my mind up if they're

saying that delivery is imminent or that their sorting machine is broken

That's not actually the tracking : that is a picture of your parcel ready made up to ship, when FT send you that it means they have arranged for the shipper (Sing Post or China Post) to collect it from them, in a couple of days you can go to ALL-IN-ONE PACKAGE TRACKING and press on the big blue panel and then enter the tracking number and press Track button (number will look something like RxyyyyyyyyyXX where x is a letter y is 9 numbers and XX is SG or CN for SingPost or ChinaPost). It will then show you where the package is until it leaves Singapore or China then a few days later it will show it at WDC which is the Royal Mail center in Langley near Heathrow, usually takes 7 to 14 days from when FT tells you it has shipped to you actually receiving it, but sometimes even up to a month, also watch out for Chinese Holidays they have more than we do and close down completely.

I was looking at a video of mesh wicks and I cant get my head around

the guy saying that it is the carbon from the heating process that

prevents shorts ... I've always believed that carbon is conductive ?

and if the carbon coating is required, couldn't you just hold the mesh in a candle flame ?

I've never been really comfortable dealing with electricity and it seems I've still got

a lot to learn

Unless you really want to get into Genesis type RBAs then I would steer clear of mesh wicks and steel rope, there are a lot of people out there, myself included who hate them with a passion because they are really hard to work with unlike silica, cotton & rayon, much harder to sort out shorts etc.
That saying other people won't use anything else but mesh, we have one such that comes to the meets in London, but they are in a minority.

You have to oxidise them before and after rolling them up by using a torch just like you would do with thin Kanthal. (to take the springiness out of it)
Doing it in a candle flame or lighter would take much longer to heat the mesh up, you have to get it glowing red :)

Big diesel locomotives have large engines as well, although I think large Marine ones are probably the biggest in the world, but still smaller than some of the older Marine steam engines

Yes it wasn't until i looked at yours thinking you had more in it than me, that I realised what the problem was with the formatting.

They've just sent me a note about my last order as well, so that should be shipping in a day or so

Hope they remember it will only work with Nichrome and not Kanthal, suppose I'd better find some to buy.

There's a shedful of nichrome on FT new arrivals Bob

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Seems like I'm going to be waiting a while longer for my Chinese crap

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The mesh wick thing just pricked my curiosity when I came across it

Way too advanced for me ... and too fiddly by half

I don't know what others think and maybe I have got it all wrong, but this Tower of London poppy thing and the whole WW1 remembrance, I think has not been done in the right way.

The TOL poppies should have been started to be planted this year on 28 July and x number should have been planted each day to represent the daily casualties until 11 Nov 2018 which is 100 years since the end of WW1 and is the date that was picked for the annual remembrance services, but everything seems to be centred around the start of WW1 which is not something to be celebrated or remembered.

Saw, that this morning when i got my email, good add-on if you are buying other things, but easier to get from someone over here otherwise

Same here when I was starting out, bought an AGA-T4 and wondered why I could never get it to work, bought a dripper - managed to get it to work but build quality wasn't good, sorted that out, bought a Kayfun, threw the AGA away and never bought another Genesis style RBA since. the rest is history as they say.

I stood my two mins silence in the middle of Tescos this morning.
There were still some a**ho**s running about like nothing was happening, too many people in this world that think they are all that matters.Totally disrespectful.
It had been annouced and both customers and staff invited to join.

If you guys are still talking about the temperature sensing function on the DNA40 board then nichrome is not the wire you want.

It's Ni200 (nearly pure nickel) wire that you need.

Can't remember who was after the slug clone, I know I am. But FT now have 2 different ones in stock, 1 at about £20 the other at £25. Has anyone got any ideas which might be the best one.

Not sure but try comparing them to this one:

The Wood & Brass 18650 Mod - M-Vapes

Usually the guy who runs this store has good quality clones. Not sure about a bit of a strange mod like this but for atties etc he gets several clones in and then orders more of the best of the bunch to put on the shop. I've had a couple things from him and they have been good clones. I know Bob uses him as well.

I would have thought the same Bob

I get very cross when I think of those privileged aristos

ordering another 100,000 men over the top as they sit

in the safety of their gentlemens club, button back chair,

brandy in hand, trying to outdo their German cousins and in laws

without a thought for the poor buggers being butchered

I think there's a lot of truth in the saying that if the people

who started wars had to fight in them

there'd be a lot less wars

Another I don't like pigeons (but don't forget I live in London and ours are flying rats), must admit the woody ones do look much nicer.
Yes, wood pigeons are usually together in pairs and tend to come down to the bird baths or to eat after the other birds have gone ...very peaceful things just like the collared doves. We always get a pair of each nesting in the hedges every summer.

Only 4 iSticks but all together must now be over 100 different mods
Oh my word! :D and there was me almost ashamed to admit to having 7 of those iSticks. The three new ones will be kept as spares.

my four legged bird chaser  he's not keen on your four legged friends either
People at the back have a marmalade cat and it's dreadful for killing the birds. One summer we saw it pounce of four baby sparrows on the lawn - Thankfully I chased it away before it killed any, and got one of those ultrasonic things. If I see it crouching on the fence under the trees or in the garden, I open a window, point it at it and press the button ...scarpers quick!

Trish, I was brought up not to say words like Tw*^%ts or snatch (cant find strkethrough)
I should hope so! I didn't even know such words existed until I was well into my 20's.
Strikethrough can be done two ways - the method Bob describes, or if you 'Go Advanced' when writing replies, there's 3 rows of options for text, insertions etc. On the bottom row, you'll see a S button to click on ...just highlight the text you want to strikethrough and click that button.

He's certainly been a busy one your Hubby. I see the pics are marine engines. First time I saw one in the flesh I was amazed how big they are
Yes, some are huge ...they had to crawl inside them for some repairs/servicing. Not a nice job because it's a 'dead ship' when in port for such things, and it's a very dank, cold and damp place to work.
Then they take them out for sea trials and make them sick! :D

I'll let you know once it goes in a tank Trisha.
OK :thumb:

Yep the MBV one Trisha. It's not really hitting the spot for me anymore.
I'm not keen on the plain Coffee one mixed with Sweet Cream ..seem to get a plastic sort of taste to it. I have some Mom & Pop Coffee & Cream flavouring I haven't used yet, so may try it.

You lot were like greased lightning
For once!

Always fast & efficient delivery from LT :)

They did a lot with plant machinery too and generators. I remember one night he was called out to an engine needed quickly, and it was snowing. It was at the bottom of a quarry and the chap waiting for him said he'd shine a lamp down now and then to make sure he was OK.
When he finally got finished around 3am, he was under at least a foot of snow together with the machine, and his van was totally covered. He packed up and drove up onto the top ..only to find no-one there. The chap had shone the lamp down, couldn't see anything so thought he'd gone without saying anything (hardly likely!).
Dangerous.
I'd stayed up until he got back home safely ...the roads were treacherous - he was wet, cold and very tired.
Hardly surprising that he has lots of back and joint problems now.

Rightly or wrongly done, I do think it's been a unique way to mark the year and honour them all.
My Mother was born in Feb 1918, and her Father, who had never seen her, died of wounds whilst a POW in May 1918. He's buried in Valenciennes cemetery France.
I bought one of those poppies and commemorated/named one for him.
I noted with interest that out of almost 900,000 poppies, only 89,000 had been named.

I stood my two mins silence in the middle of Tescos this morning.

I always say that if only two things were taught to children from the very start, we'd have a far better society from the past 3-4 generations: respect & values.

@Brynglas know exactly what you mean, often wonder if we need another to get rid of the chaff if you know what I mean, problem is most of them would probably be refuseniks, white feather mob etc.
There are some dreadful people around, and I've been very grateful to work at home this past 25 years where I don't need to encounter them every day!

I would have thought the same Bob

I find it awfully sad to see footage from the WW's, especially the conditions in the first one.
I suddenly realised around my mid 20's-30's that wars were basically caused by two men disagreeing, and that they themselves should fight it out by whatever means achieved a resolution.
People say things like 'oh isn't -----(whoever in prominent positions) wearing well', and I can't help but respond that it's because they've led a sheltered and privileged life!
