Last year sometime, I saw that our supermarket had some 10Motives ones so I bought a disposable thinking it
could be good to take anywhere I couldn't smoke, and to use before I went for my 6 monthly BP check. It sat in the pen section of my desk tidy, and last December, I had a problem with itchy sore yes. Husband had been complaining that my cigarettes seemed to have an awful smell lately, so after lunch one day, I thought I'd try the disposable if I could for just a few hours to see if it helped .......I didn't have more than a few cigarettes for the rest of that day, and by 2am as I was clearing up, I realised I'd smoked 1/3 less than my normal 35 per day. I repeated the exercise a few days later and found the same, so bought a few more of the same disposables.
By mid January, I was only smoking half my usual number so I thought I'd see if I could go lower, and when I got down to 10 per day decided to see just how far I could go. I got a couple of simple kits with batteries and 2.4mg cartridges, Made myself no promises, decided not to kick myself if I failed, and told no-one what I was doing. By 25th January, I'd only had two: one when I had my first cup of tea and one early evening ...and I made myself stand by an open door to smoke them too! 26th and 27th, I only had one: half morning, half evening. I decided that on the 28th I'd have no morning cigarette at all and used my e-cig instead. I haven't had a cigarette since.
Three weeks later, and cigarette free, I coughed a few times and my husband said tetchily that I really should stop smoking - I started laughing and it made him even crosser ...until I told him I hadn't had a cigarette for three weeks, and no-one had even noticed!
It was not long after that I found I get problems with PG (and the vanilla cartridges) so got a few eSmart batteries and clearomisers, bought some VG liquid at 1.8mg and was fine. I stepped it down a few more times until down to 0.6mg with no problem, and now use the larger batteries, tanks and MVP's.
Yes, I do get some breathing problems with certain flavours, and I'm gradually learning which to avoid.
I have to say, I found it easy, and if I can do it, anyone can because parting me from my cigarettes was akin to trying to steal my family or my dogs: I'd fight to the last!
Those little e-cigs were worth their weight in gold to me because quite simply, they work instead of a cigarette. I'd tried a few times to give up, but it seemed even thinking about not having a cigarette had me reaching for one! I would chew the gum and find myself smoking a cigarette!
I think I had my first cigarette at 15, but of course back then, I didn't have many ..certainly not one every day.
I'm 64 - young in outlook, and apparently I look younger than my years, but I married at 17, and had our first son a year later. Age most definitely is just a number.
I went to art college and was also being trained for the Covent Garden Opera. Having a home and young family though meant I needed to earn a wage, so I gave up on those things, only returning to art seriously in my late 30's. The year I was 40, I left work to be a professional artist and have never looked back
It has to be true that there is more than nicotine addictive in cigarettes to keep people wanting to light up another! That's why I find our government so hypocritical: they let the tobacco companies add all manner of noxious chemicals, yet gripe about e-cigs? Can they not see that?
We've been out to lunch twice in the past two months, both times out for 3 hours, yet I didn't use mine until back home. Yes, I was looking forward to doing so, but I wasn't particularly anxious a about it! When I smoked, I'd have been out in the garden of the restaurant having a cigarette!
People have very selective hearing/comprehension. The more good press there is the better!
Good point Bob - thanks for pointing that out. Based on those facts, no I don't need one!
Such a lovely metallic blue though!
That's a really sensible and mutually acceptable way to do it - I recently heard of a public service department that banned them from the premises. Why? one person sat at the front desk happily using an e-pipe! I had to admit, he was probably asking for trouble by doing that in his position especially. As a result, the more discreet or out of general view people in the building have lost their ability to use them.
I do think that some people are perhaps deliberately blasé about it - an e-pipe is not going to look much different from the real thing to a non smoker in particular, and a member of the public seeing a person in a responsible position using one is bound to get the wrong impression. The same would probably apply in many restaurants or similar places.
Certain 'indoor' places most definitely do need a degree of caution or common sense if we aren't to alienate the use of them completely.
Because I don't have a problem using the small e-cigs, I've been happy to find a company in the UK that produce pre-filled VG cartomizers/cartridges - mine has just arrived: a small trial kit with a battery, five cartridges and a USB charger for 9.99. It's there for when I'm out anywhere. I can easily use it, pop in a pocket or bag, even a purse, it won't leak, doesn't give off a whole lot of vapour and works perfectly. What's not to like

I spend most of my time here in my studio, so it's not like I'll be using it a lot anyway.
