Yes, Google is the way to go! Google is one of the best and easiest to use since it is set as one of the standards.

Google is just all around awesome. I have a gmail account and it has everything I need for internet organization; built in chat, calendar (which I use for my business appointments), rss reader, & document and picture storage.

I use google reader. I like using a web based one so that I don't have to manage my feeds across different machines, also the share feature is pretty cool if you have any other friends using it.

If you prefer a standalone thing in ubuntu, you can also use Thunderbird. I haven't tried it for RSS, but it probably works fine. Maybe this thread on the ubuntu forums could help you out.
