Anyone know how to make these darned things work?

I bought a "Dual Coil 510 Tank Cartomizer" from madvapes and the thing just leaks all over the place. I checked the reviews as sometimes you can get some good info there but everyone just says how great it is. I did a search here but it came up with too many entries to slog through and nothing jumped out. I Pulled the top filled it half way and just ended up wit ha mess all over that place that made me dizzy from all the nic juice all over my hands.


Any advice on getting this thing to work would be appreciated as I love the idea.

When the tank gets punched it makes a dimple in the carto that can distort it enough that it doesn't make a seal. I've had one of the replacement tank cartos and a couple that I punched on my own do the exact same thing. Also, are you taking the drip tip off or removing the whole top cap? If you take the top cap off there's no reason to pull the tank up on the carto, just fill and put the cap back on. If you're just taking your DT off and sliding it up make sure you aren't taking the tank up past the juice hole. You just need enough room for the juice to slide down between the wall of the tank and the carto.

The first time it leaked out through the bottom plug. I ran some juice around the seal this time to seal it and it worked. This time however the leak was through the bottom of the carto... at the joint of the PV and the carto. It just pooled at the top of my RoughStack.

Be sure to fill tank first by plungeing the syringe between the carto and ring then top off the inside of the carto by dropping. Dont put any directly down the center of the cart.

Sounds to me like that carto might have a tear or puncture in the center tube that runs down the middle of the inside of the carto. That will let juice flow into the connecter. If that's the case there's not much you can do about it. A new carto is in order.

That would make sense. Should I drip the carto... would not dripping it cause a problem?

Do a search on filling carto tanks. There are videos. If it leaks out the threaded end of the carto, the tank was pressurized from putting the cap on. I fill all my tanks upside down with the caps on. I slide the carto down enough to fill with a syringe. Then slide the carto back in place and vape away.

Hey Omni. Did you fill the carto first? I find that saturating the filler first and then filling the tank prevents leaks. It helps keep the juice in the tank at bay & as the filler dries & more air is available in the filling, it will feed on it's own like all carto tanks should.

There is the rare possibility that MadVapes punched the carto on the "thin" side of the filler. With some cartos, when looking into them, you'll see that the filler is much thicker on one side than the other (especially with Smok cartos, I find that Boge's are usually pretty symetric). I learned from a good friend to always punch my cartos on the thick side to both aid with wicking and as additional insurance against leaks. Again, this is just conjecture, but I'm pretty sure MadVapes sells tons of these and some may be punched on the thin side.

EDIT @ricks, great advice, the whole pressure thing is definitely a cause for leaks, as I've run into that in the past with this tank, the Bud Atomizer's plug, etc. For my DCC tanks, I find that they slide pretty easily, & simply slide them up enough past the carto to drip fill them, then slide back down so no pressure forces juice through.

And just where would the air that is in the tank go?
Think pressure, and what that will cause the juice to do.
Toss the syringe, you don't need it to fill a tank! AND, they will force the carto to leak all over the place.

Hey tj! Me too! Although @Omni, it sounds like you just got yours, so you'll have to do it from the top end since the stock carto is flanged. Should still work okay, you can even put a condom halfway on the bottom for backup, but as soon as you start punching your own cartos, I'd recommend doing it this way, upside down.

The DC carto tanks that MadVapes sell has the hole in the carto already in it from the manufactuer. It is not punched, its a machined type of hole. Check it out, its a real small hole.

I think the hole is drilled not punched. If you fill as directed on the madvapes site there should be no pressure build up.

Yeah, I assumed it was punched by MadVapes, & yes, it is extremely small. Either way, point being hopefully the machined hole is at the thicker side of the filler, that's what I shoot for when I punch mine. If they are mass-machined at the factory, I doubt that they pay that much attention to filler & just ensure it's at the right height.

I've tried it a few different ways including some great responses in here but I think I'll just stick to my standard boge's. a good filling lasts me my 1 hour commute and I have no problem carrying around a little bottle to drip my top offs. I expect my equipment to handle being drug around in my pockets w/o leakage and it just doesn't seem like these are made for that. I made the purchase as a learning experience and I've gotten one but I just don't think this thing is for me. With the extension on it barely clears the button on my RoughStack anyway. I'll continue to play around with it for my eGo when I'm charging my batteries or something. I should just be happy with my current setup and stop mucking about. ;^)

Sigh... many times ive said this to myself. Then go purchase just one more thing to test out.

One of the reasons I use these tanks is to make the cartomizer last longer. With the tank system, the carto stays wet like a newly filled carto from the first vape to the last and wont get a chance to burn out when the carto gets low on liquid. A carto without a tank will taste and vape great in the beginning and then fade when it gets low on liquid. Tanks keep the carto like its always new.

If it is leaking heavily from the connector it probably has to do with pressure. If you have pulled the entire top cap off too fill then when you replace the cap the air will displaced and juice will flood the carto. If that happens all you have to do is blow the carto out.

I think those new tank cartos have the flange at the bottom to keep the tank from sliding down. I prefer to punch my own holes because sometimes you get a hole that is just too big or juice just overfills the carto for some reason. When this happens I just slide the tank down far enough so that the hole is not submerged in the liquid. I vape a while and then either tilt the tank or slide it back up. Take a draw on the carto without activating the atomiser and let a couple of bubbles come out of the hole. Then I slide it back down. This has worked well on jacked up cartos that still hit good, but flood.

Dont give up on tank idea carto last longer and so convienent not topping off all day.... I have 3 liquinators havent had a leak yet and i fill as pictured above... I dont prefill carto's i actually cup the bottom of tank with hand and carto installed and tank filled and take a few pulls untill i see it slush up in carto. Just my 2c.

I'm sure I'll return to it but for now I'm just a little to discouraged. Loosing my juice 1ml at a time when I'm not even going to use it on my main just seems a little silly for the moment. I'll have another go at it in a week or so. Maybe I'll find a larger extension that will give me better access to my button. I like the button on top because I don't have to worry about accidentally hitting it while it's in my pocket.
