I drip the vast majority of the time and have done so with many attys and liquids. Unless this liquid has some type of special characteristics, there would be no reason as to why that should be happening.
The only time I see leaks is because too much liquid has accumulated in the atty and it is also a sign that the atty performance is starting to drop off. I blow it out really well, dry burn it in a well ventilated area and continue doing so until I see the vapor taper off. I should mention, I dry burn it rather aggressively using a 5v device. 10 seconds on and 2-3 seconds off. Many times, as the "gunk" burns off the atty leaks even more. Then, I wait for it to cool and drip 4-5 drops.
I should also mention:
1. I dry burn more aggressively if the atty is older. That way, I don't mind too much if it burns out.
2. I always carry a spare
3. If I am at home I would do this and then proceed to clean the atty, especially if it is newer.
