So I ordered some 317L stainless steel welding wire (same stuff as gplat) for like $15/30 meters.... And I like it. What I don't like, is waiting 2 weeks for shipping from the UK.

Anyone know where to find 317L stainless steel welding wire in 20-26g in the US? The only vendors I've been able to find are selling by the pound, most of which have a Minimum Order Quantity of ~ 20lbs (~$400.00). While I'm sure I could buy one, sell 95% of it, make a bit of money and have wire for life... I'd rather just buy in the quantities I need from a local vendor lol.

If you go round some welding supply stores then maybe they'll have some wire in a mig they use for demos, and they could cut you off a few feet. Don't phone, you have to go in person. Take a sample of what you have already, for comparison.

Otherwise you can use 316 or 312 if you can find that easier.

316 is very close, at 18/12/3 for chromium, nickel, moly. It should vape identical. Less manganese usually, not sure if that will have any effect - seems unlikely.

312 (sometimes called 29/9 in the UK) is higher quality (for dissimilar metal welding, in wire / rods) and contains about 30/10 or 29% chromium and 9 nickel. Hard to say how that would vape without trying it. No idea how the resistance per foot will differ.

If I remember right g-plat was 316L cold drawn wire, not 317L so you should find plenty of 316L on amazon or etsy, they are mostly from jewelry equipment sellers.

Has that issue been put to rest yet? I have not yet seen a definitive answer as to the pedigree of Gplat.

And the mystery continues, lol. I STRONGLY believe that Gplat is a commercially available wire that Vapinology repackages at a significant markup. Either that, or they hired a few engineers and metallurgists, contracted a specialty alloy steel manufacturer to make a small batch of their alloy, and had the metal extruded and packaged for resale. And I don't see a vape vendor having the resources to do that.

Idk what to believe, sounds like they are trying to scare us...

Well, I look at it this way. Given my last comment, I think if they come clean about what Gplat really is, they face backlash from the vaping community AND a rather immediate loss of sales. I think they're going to hang on to the secret as long as possible.

If I remember right, some person on reddit had paid a metallurgist to determine the g-plat wire and it was exactly same as 317L cold drawn wire, determined by a professional metallurgist so I don't think they did anything to 317L or engineered a better resistance wire and not release any material safety data sheets of them,so for that matter it could be absolutely anything in the bag, and for that I won't use it.
