I have bad teeth just plain and simple. No matter how many cleanings, fillings, root canals and crowns I've had, I loose the teeth. The dentist said I had a high fever as a baby and it damaged my adult teeth............sounds like a crock to me but I don't have a degree in dentistry. I was in a dental chair to have a tooth extracted and the $#^$@ dentist broke my jaw! My hell it hurt!! So I had to have my jaw wired for 7 weeks. During this time I DID NOT quit smoking. I couldn't eat so by gosh I was going to smoke. You should've seen my bottom teeth when I got my jaw unwired! They were as black as coal from the tar!! The oral surgeon cleaned them the best he could right then but I had to wait 2 weeks for a "real" cleaning because I couldn't hold my mouth open wide enough for a good cleaning. You would think I would've quit smoking right then and there.............heck no! I smoked more. Not sure this is on topic with the topic per se but I do know the damage smoking does to our teeth and gums. I go to the dentist for my 6 month cleaning next month and can't wait to see what he has to say about me not smoking anymore...........he might faint!!

I'm sorry, stover.p. but I had to laugh out loud at your story. Thanks!
I'm sorry also for your pain and anguish but your dedication to smoking is something to be admired and left me awe-struck...based on my own experience. Thanks for sharing that.
I'm so glad we've found ecigs.

after i ordered my ecig i started wondering about the effects of the vapor on your teeth. glad to see it looks like most ppl are having positive reviews from their dentist. i thought some of the sweet flavorings in the juice might cause in increase in cavities, guess not... so to recap, mtn dew, horrible for your teeth, mtn dew vapor, probably ok...

i havent been to the dentist yet, but my teeth seem to be a lot smoother, the color isnt as brown as they were before....a little lighter nothing miraculous, but they used to be so i dunno how to put it "pourous" i guess, but now they are smoother, and no more plaque build up i used to have at the border between my teeth and gums.

I've been to the dentist twice since making the switch. The last visit was the first time that I've had zero cigarettes between cleanings; at the last one, I had been using my PV for only 5 months. Before making the switch, I had smoked for 21 years. So my dentist and hygienist had never seen me when I was a non-smoker.

That was the easiest cleaning I have ever had. My hygienist and dentist were thrilled and were very excited about my switch. They said my gums had never looked healthier. My hygienist said that for the first time since she's been seeing me, my gums looked 'alive'. She said that they'd always had a grey, lifeless quality. But now, they were pink and healthy. And my teeth were absolutely clean. There was no stain at all.

I took my PV in, showed it to them, and (at their insistence) demonstrated it in the office. They were wowed. I gave them some information, including the ECF URL, to share with their other patients who smoke.

That's such good news GregH. I hope my visit next month goes that well. I've only been vapeing 3 months so I'm not expecting a miracle but an improvement is a step in the right direction.

This has to be another good point for vapeing doesn't it??

When I first saw my dentist and he noticed the change I had been vaping for less than 1 week. The second visit, 2 weeks later, was to have permanent crowns placed and he was raving about the improvement that he saw between visits!

I have a genetic history that left me a sitting duck for dental problems from the time that I was a kid. However, smoking surely didn't help! I've had crowns, bone grafting x 4 and dental implants x7. It wasn't until after the bone grafting and the implants that I made a firm decision to quit. Geeze, some people can be so stubborn! :headbang:

DonnaDo-Some of us just have to be hit in the head with a hammer don't we ;) WOW, that's A LOT of money isn't it? It's amazing how much dental work costs. I was raised by a single mom that didn't have dental insurance so needless to say I only went when it was too late and the tooth had to be pulled. Back then the dentist didn't try too much to save teeth. I have bridges and crowns now but am really so tired of all the dental work. One step forward 2 steps back with my teeth. I'm waiting for the day I can just get them all yanked. I know that's the coward way out but I've spent too many vacations in the dental chair!

I feel your pain! And yes, it was a ton of $$$. My husband says that I have a C Class Mercedes parked in my mouth. As a kid, I got regular dental care; but I had a dentist who must have been pull crazy. Would you believe that during one year of my mouth revision, there wasn't a week that went by that I wasn't sitting in a dental chair (alternating between the dentist and the periodontist?)

You've got to find yourself a great periodontist/dentist combination. Believe me, these two men made the long process more tolerable. Not to mention that they totally rejuvinated my mouth, teeth, and gums!

During that year of weekly dental visits (in one chair or the other) I used to ask the dentist and the periodontist to please put my name on one of their kids' large Christmas gifts!
I'm putting all my money in my daughter's mouth so of course, Mom goes on the back burner....................She started having dental problems at 18 months. Started with cute little silver caps and now it's expensive crowns and she's only 16! We're paying for my dentist's kid to go to college.
