1) Do you use, or plan to use, Dual Coil (DC) cartos? They need lots of amps, and generally AW IMR batteries. I don't know the specs on this mod to know its max-amps.

I think people generally underestimate the discharge capacity of a high quality protected li-ion battery. AW protected cells are rated at 2C, and even a 1600mAh 17670 has the potential to safely pump out 3.2A. Let alone what a 2900mAh or 3100mAh 18650 can do. An AW IMR 18650 1600mAh @ 8C can do 12.8A, and I don't think there is any atty/carto combo available that would need that much juice.

Unless somebody is using a atty/carto that has a resistance of 965mΩ or lower and are driving it at 6V, a 3100mAh protected AW battery will be able to safely provide more than enough juice for any atty/carto/variable voltage that is currently out there. 6.2A is a lot of juice! Even a 1.5Ω DCC @ 6V is only 4A. IMR's, IMO, are unnecessary. Might as well get a high capacity AW protected cell for the additional layer of safety and extra capacity.

Everything but the flat topped batteries seem to work in it.
I don't have any 3000 mAh batteries but the 2500 and 3600 ones I have work fine.

I just stuck my flat-top AW 2900mAh battery in the eGo 18650 mod, and it fit perfectly fine and fired up with no problem. And if the 2900mAh fits, the 3100mAh will as well since they are the same exact size.

The problem isn't so much with capacity or being a flat-top, it's with the manufacturers who make these kinds of batteries. Ultrafire or Trustfire are among the worst, and they also don't care about proper or consistent sizing as much as AW does.

This is fine for the price, if you're satisfied with the relatively low voltage of the standard ego (I usually am, using LR cartomizers). The build quality is pretty good, but I highly recommend using something to lube the threads since it's aluminum. My local hardware store doesn't have Noalox, but recommended something called Oxgard, which appears to be similar. The fit for a couple of my 18650 batteries is very snug and, as mentioned elsewhere, there are no vent holes. I plan to drill a couple just to be on the safe side. The main reason I bought this is that the battery can be charged while in the unit using a regular eGo-T USB dongle. That means that when I travel I can just use the wall warts I already carry for charging my phone, Nook, and iPod. Big plus for me not to have to lug a dedicated 18650 charger as well.

Food for thought...
