To get it smooth and even you need to spin the tube on the long axis. A lathe is ideal, but you can improvise with a hand drill and a vise. Fashion a way to hold the tube, spin it at low RPM and apply the abrasive as evenly as possible.
I've done that to my A7 atomizers. The trick is not to push down on the sandpaper a lot. Just hold it gently. I ended up going over it with a rough steel wool after the sand paper. That made it look kind of polished, but not mirror-like
I was also wondering about this.. I want to do this with my ss vamo especially since I'm going to get a natural in a few days and then shortly after an rsst and I would like everything to look nice and match.. Thanks for the advice. Anything further? Just sandpaper and a lathe?
Scotchbrite pads will do a better job than sandpaper. Use a long bolt with washers bigger than the tube and a nut to hold it tight, bolt needs to be long enough to chuck into the drill or lathe.
