If you want to try a vertical, go for the lower gauge wire (higher gauge number) with more wraps. You will want a taller coil while you will want a shorter one with a horizontal for it to fit inside the coil body. With the nickel coils I'm using, I use 26 gauge 12 wrap ni200 coils, which gets me to around 0.12-0.13 ohms. I also tried one with a 24 gauge 12 wrap which measures out at 0.11 ohms.I got so spoiled with the precoils.....LOVE THEM....I bought 100 subohm ones, too...redoing the horizontal subohms was eas, just hadn't tried a vertical one yet.next time I'm able to do a fasttechorder, think I may get some more of the stock could just so I have spares on hand.
I got the .6 nichromes....and I have some 26ga kanthal around, tooIf you want to try a vertical, go for the lower gauge wire (higher gauge number) with more wraps. Hmmm.... still no wiener...
I think this contest is broken. Anybody got duct tape?
lol, I thought you were talking wire til I got to the tape part.I have standard silver, black, neon green, neon yellow and the shiny 'metal' tape. Whatcha need?
If you use 26 gauge kanthal and do a 3 mm diameter coil with 12 wraps (you want to do a spaced coil so you don't need to worry about hot spots) that will get you around 1.6 ohms. Of course if you're winding it yourself, it will be larger than the machine wound ones I'm using since the spacing will most likely be larger, so you might even be able to get away with using a 10 or even 8 wrap coil.I got the .6 nichromes....and I have some 26ga kanthal around, too
I do parallel 26g 5 wraps dual coil 2.5mm comes out to .26-.30If you use 26 gauge kanthal and do a 3 mm diameter coil with 12 wraps (you want to do a spaced coil so you don't need to worry about hot spots) that will get you around 1.6 ohms. First I would need to get some kanthal wire. Then I would need to get a coiling jig. I had one, but then I got frustrated with winding coils so I had PIF'ed it to Utsuru.I do parallel 26g 5 wraps dual coil 2.5mm comes out to .26-.30
You should try that on your Tug! Not spaced.

Just replaced a vertical with a .6 switched to vertical wrap. Popped it in a base, still reads at .6..... With the prewound nickel coils I bought from Fasttech, the legs are just long enough so when I set up the vertical coil and put it into one of the Atlantis-style coils, the negative leg is exactly long enough to fit inside the coil body without needing to be trimmed. I only need to trim the positive leg.Just replaced a vertical with a .6 switched to vertical wrap. Popped it in a base, still reads at .6..... GO, ME!!!!!
