Oh, good...lol....we have to explain the wolf/not a wolf every week at our park playdates....snort... I get a little weird sometimes...just sometimes...

I know all too well the fear mongering, except my canine was 75% wolf and 25% thoroughbred German Shepherd. The breeder had bred Wolf with Shepherd then those pups with Wolf. I was looking at their Shepherd's but the wolf pups and their parents were just so beautiful. He was good natured, a bit protective but no more than a Shepherd.

I lived rural at the time and had several acres of property, neighbors were ignorant. I had a neighbor that bred Shepherd's for the DEA (she was an agent as well), she had 8 murderous beasts that killed my Rat Terrier, my beloved pet. Not the dogs fault, it was the way they were trained.

Police wouldn't do anything about it since the dogs were technically police officers and so was she.

Yet my wolf that stayed in my yard was a neighborhood threat.

some day, once my beloved tiny dog bella has passed, I think maybe a big dog will be next...now that the grandson isn't so tiny I think I could handle a big dog
I grew up with labs... Wanted another, but hubby said if we were getting a dog, it had to be a Husky, cause " they look cool"... Three Huskies and countless fosters later, I'm still grateful he got his way, for once.

I'm so sorry...that's one of the hardest parts of rescue...battling breed ignorance. I turned down a few applicants because they didnt understand the Huskies and Mals, and refused to learn.

There is plenty of ignorance on various breeds, look at the Mastiff...big scary looking dog and they are almost always big babies. Pit Bull's as well, when properly raised they are usually gentle.

The only dog I don't really like is the Chow Chow, even when raised well they can be viciously territorial.

Pitbulls do NOT like Max....I don't know what it is....lol....my personal concern about them is so many are dumped in shelters without any idea of their temperament. If someone has had one since birth, I'll give loves....but a very close friend of mine was mauled by one at her boarding facility. Turns out he'd been deemed unadoptable due to aggression at 2 kill shelters and had been passed on to someone who had him for 3 hours before putting him in boarding. Humans failed him...sigh....

boxers and rotts have been the choice of the big dog lovers around me. Good breeding and good upbringing made them GREAT family dogs. Personally I would want a husky I think after talking with/listening to you talk about yours.

But it will be a while yet...bella is getting sicker as she gets older and I don't want another dog "in her spot" for quite a while. Its hard knowing we will loser her sooner than later

We lost our old boy 10/13/2014... Coming up on a year and I still cry. He was my 1st Husky, and got me started on the breed, then into rescue. Looked like a big old wolf, scared of his own shadow. My mother in law was absolutely terrified of him, until he got on the couch next to her and laid his head in her lap to claim her. They were best buddies after that. They are incredibly sweet and loving, but also smarter than most humans and can't be counted on as watchdogs, or to be off leash. while some can live with cats, some have an incredibly strong prey drive. But Max loves children, more than he loves sautéed liver...lol...when kids approach, and you tell him it's time to work, he will sit down and wait for "loves"... If the kids keep loving on him, he will lie down and let them. At one event, there was a little girl about 18months old who threw herself on him and started gnawing his ear. He didn't twitch, just waited till she was done and gave her a kiss.

I know what you mean! Max would be easy for anyone to pet sit him...Blizzard would be another story. He loves humans, but not so much other dogs, especially males. All of my last fosters were all female puppies, he was fine with them, but not so much with a little male I had here for just afew days. We fondly referr to him as "the troll".
