It's still early days but I said I would show you how it's going.

I have a nice sheet of pewter to use for the final but until I get it right I am just practising on aluminium and I will still need to fill in the back and stabilise it on some velum. But it's a nice effect

Krisma, this is really beautiful. You picked a nice design and did a really good job on it. I kind of like an antiqued look of pewter but any way you polish it out it's going to look awesome. Think of the design possibilities!

So many of the box mods are quite plain and manufacturers seem to think a bright colour makes it better. I learned how easy it was to take the panels of my billet boxes and have done some new panels in wood and even a set using kitchen laminate samples from the local design house. The laminate samples come in all sorts of textures and designs and you can get larger free samples whenever you want. Also by their very nature they have a super hard wearing surface.

I use a couple of clones to get the process right. This is one with laminate panels.

I am sure the idea of this can apply to a lot of plain mods if you are so inclined. I have a couple istick 60w's with the changeable panels that I am playing with as well. They are curved so it lends itself to a thicker vinyl rather than metal sheets. I use 3m super sticky double side tape which can be removed when you want a change.

Ps......I like having unique gear. :p

Yea I've been thinking about using some wood laminate on my hohm wrecker. It's why I chose the silver, figured I could add my own spice.

Thanks, it's quite plain as it is. Burl walnut sides would really spruce it up and make it unique.

My only fear is I would need to rough it up with sandpaper to get a strong bond, then if the glue didn't hold it would look terrible.

But it wasn't too much I guess, I think I paid $135 without looking at the order. So if I ruined it I would be more upset about wasting the burl laminate than scratching up the device. I am super frugal when it comes to a natural resource that was once alive. Maybe bamboo would be a better choice, easily renewable.

Saying that I will go with bamboo, feeling good at the end of the day is better than appearance. And bamboo is still an attractive option.

Off to find a thin slice of bamboo sheet :)

*edit*

So in looking at veneers I came across a wonderful copper that I may go with instead of wood.

The Billet Box is perfect for this but, yes, I've been going through my mods and trying to think of ways to adapt this to one of them. Your gear is not only unique but beautiful. (I've always loved the drip tips you make)

Now that would look good on a mod. So many ways you can go with this. :D

:p I do love my drip tips LOL

Another way to do it is to frame the veneer with a wrap and make the veneer or embossed strip a feature.

Just thinking out loud. :p

I really enjoyed Gotham as well!
I didn't read comics as a kid. I have watched all the movies. But it is pretty interesting to see a more gritty and realistic interpretion of how the villians came to be. I think it was a pretty good concept to focus on Gordon.

I never really got into the Gotham show, although my daughter was really into it. The few times I've watched it, I did notice that they kept up with the steampunk feel of the movies.

They do have a little bit of that feel, but not too much. They feel like a mix between the Michael Keeton and Christian Bale movies. They're also very similar to the Arkham Asylum trilogy of games, even down to some of the sound effects.
