Hey guys, picked up an authentic Aqua v2 a few days ago to possibly replace my Subtank. I can tell you that I have probably re-coiled, re-wicked, and cleaned this tank to no end and can't get it to taste good at all.

It's wicking just fine, but no matter what I do I'm getting this earthy, cottony taste that just overpowers everything. It's not at all a dry burn taste, I don't know how else to describe it. juice channels are not overpacked, wick is staying wet.

It's currently a 1 ohm, 2mm coil at a very conservative 20w. I know this tank doesn't suck, so many people rave about it, but I have no idea where this bad taste is coming from. Help? I'm about ready to give up and either go back to my Subtank or pick up a Goblin.

How about a pic of your build?

I've never experienced an issue like that with an Aqua. Are your coils firing evenly? No hot spots?

Yes, a pic would help wouldn't it. The coil is firing evenly from the middle out, there doesn't appear to be any hot spots. I really love the design of this tank, just want to figure out why I'm an idiot.

The Aqua V2 can be a little finicky on wicking. It looks to me like there may be to much cotton in the channels. While maybe it's technically wicking, it may not be fast enough to keep up with you.

What has been working for me is to cut the tails so they just hit the top of the deck with maybe just a few threads poking down into the channels. Obviously, if you're running it single coil, stuff the heck out of the other two.

You might also try centering up that coil and lowering it just a bit for better flavor.

It might be the picture, but it looks like you can place the coils lower on the deck to get it closer to the air inlets. This way the air can hit the coils more directly.

I also found that something like a 2.4mm coil ID worked well on the V2 since the air inlets are on the smaller side, like 2mm air hole I think. That might just be my experience though. I tried bigger coils and went back to the 2.4mm size.

Just as VaPreis said, you can also go less with the wick in the channels. Reaching into the channel, but not going all the way down usually works fine.

Yeah it's all in the wicking. Of course you wanna stick to the method of making sure the wick is snug in the coil but not to snug..but after that you wanna trim the crap out of it...all over... I like to take my scissors and turn em so the cutting edge is against the deck and trim it from there. Then stick a little in the channels and then trim some more. As others have said maybe set the coils a little lower and 2.4 diameter works fantastic.

I received an authentic Aqua V2 from localvape recently as well and have been too lazy to build on it. Mines is dirty....REALLY dirty. Especially all inside the chamber and chimney. Make sure you cleaned yours good enough, if the taste is actually bad that may be your problem.

Also, looking at your build, what you want to shoot for is having your coils directly over the air holes. You don't want cotton over those holes. That's true with any tank or dripper. You also want those coils as close to the airflow as possible without actually touching your deck.

Thanks all for your replies, sorry for the delay, been traveling. I think part of the problem was like everyone said (dirty). I cleaned the ever living crap out of it with vodka. Grey Goose was all I had left, so that was one hell of an expensive cleaning ;)

I re-wicked it with as a little cotton as possible and this seemed to help as well. It isn't perfect yet, but a vast improvement.

I just cleaned mine, about to do a build. The evaporation chamber was very dirty, and the little chimney that screws on the top of it was most of all, some kind of black soot. Had to really get in there and scrub it good.
I think the "black soot" came from the o-rings, wiped off pretty easily on mine, might not be the same thing.
