I vape at Re=<1 personally ;)

It's the first graphic I found that showed the basic idea.

I accidentally put a 3.5mm ID coil in my Russian 91 the other night and it tasted awful, it was for my STM. The bottom of the coil was fine but the top was sealed in a layer of burnt eliquid.
agreed. That is the place to be. I did part of a fuid mechanics course as part of a chemical engineering degree I never finished many, many years ago. Pretty heavy duty math but really interesting. Forgot it all now. My memory for surface integrals and whatnot is pretty poor lol!

Back OT, i do use 3mm coils quite a lot but they do certainly work best with a decent AF aperture for the reasons you state!

I use only spaced coils in my Lemo 2. I've been switching between 2.5mm and 3mm coils, 6-7 wraps of 24 gauge nichrome 80.

The 3mm coils seem to be a bit more forgiving when it comes to wicking, but 2.5mm coils give better flavor when the wicking is right. Either way, at 0.4-0.5 ohms, I'm running high VG at 34-38 watts.

The top fill on the Lemo can also be used to avoid dry hits - when it seems to be getting a little dry, the top fill can be opened for a few seconds to get more juice to feed.

The size of coils I use very much depends on the atty. The Rose v2 is probably the one I've experimented with most. 2mm coils give me the best flavor in that, whether horizontal or vertical.

I like 2.5mm coils in my OG Lemo.

I like dual stacked 2.5mm coils in the Ubertoot, and find that has much better flavor than a gigantic single coil.

So, do some experimenting with each of your attys.

Try a vertical coil first, if that doesn't help, maybe try spacing the coils out. If all else fails, try a smaller diameter coil. In my sub-tanks that feature an RBA section, I find the sweet spot to be somewhat spaced 1/8 inner diameter. When I say somewhat, I mean very small spacing. Not as much as nickel but not a contact coil either.
