Are automatics really that bad?

I have one of each, and they aren't that bad. A manual can give you some more consistency, but it does seem a little less robotic to just drag on an automatic.

Just remember to take a quick primer puff into your mouth to turn it on, then take your slow drag as normal. Kinda like revving up a cigarette or cigar after you've been talking for a while ;)

They are not that bad. It is just a lot of people want the control of the manual. I have both and am happy with both. It just depends on what I am doing depends on which one I want to use. I think the autos are great for someone just starting out, because it is the most like a real cig. But later on, if you want more control, you might want to get some manuals.

I hope this helps!! :)

Tiger makes a great point since it does seem that a lot of people starting out want the ecig to mimic a real one as much as possible and the auto does do that because well, you don't need to a push a button on your Marlboro (Came, Kool, Dunhill, whatever) to get a "hit."

I truly enjoy both: I have some HV mods and some V4L manuals but I also have an auto shorty so sometimes I will just sit there and hold it and smoke it like I could a real cig (even putting the e-cig down momentarily in an ash tray - LOL) and it relaxes me.

I don't think they are bad at all; I usually prefer manuals, but always have at least one auto and one manual on me at all times. There can be problems with the auto switch (vacuum type on V4L VK), but you can also have trouble with the manual switches too. Auto's are great when your hands are busy (don't go there with me!) such as video games, but you definitely have more control with manuals. As already pointed out, the main disadvantage is that moisture or juice can enter the battery compartment of auto's whereas manuals are sealed. This is usually only a problem for people who are sloppy when refilling or improper handling in general. In both cases, you should periodically clean the battery threads to insure good electrical contact. Don't worry about your order; you will soon have a variety of both I'm sure :)

The only autos ive dealt with were blu's and the cut off on their autos wasn't fun. Personally I ended up with unvaped juice on the mouthpiece and small hits. I'm using 510 manuals now and its VERY nice to be able to take a bigger hit if I want it instead of hitting my old blue 3 times to get the same amount of vapor.

Imo get used to vaping with whatca got then order a manual and try it out. You will probably never want to go back to autos..Not to mention being able to drip with manuals

I only use auto batteries so far, they seem to be better on the 510 than the 808 in my experience. The 4 510 batteries I have all hit great, where as 1 of the 808 hits good and the other is just ok. I like to have both hands free to type or work, so auto works best for me most of the time. I have a FL mod i made and I can see what people mean about the consistency of a manual tho.

I've grown to dislike the auto batt on my 4075, but the ones from Vapor King are a whole different story; very long runtime before cutoff hits, and the 'primer puff' became habit for me very quickly...

Some prefer the control of manuals, some prefer the simplicity (and greater similarity to analogs) of autos...

The autos ARE susceptible to damage if you are messy and don't clean juice off your cartos after refilling them, but using the condom refill method I've rarely ever had much juice come up through the battery-side hole of the carto..

So far I'm an auto guy, but we'll see what I say when my VP2 gets here :)

When I bought my first kit, I got a manual and an auto. I bought the manual because of all the negative comments I read here and the auto because I didn't think I would care for the manual, given that I'm a smoker. I thought, the closer to the real thing, the better. As things stand now, I much prefer the manual purely for the control. I find that I have to keep taking puffs on the auto to keep it activated (i.e. I can't seem to take one long drag because the battery seems to disengage when you don't keep puffing). With the manual, I just hold the button down as long as I want to get the right amount of vapor. I can't speak for the model you purchased, but as far as my 510's go, the manual is far superior.

The Joye 510 is one of the best autos - no cutoffs, no timeouts. The only thing is, you still can't drip with them.... or if you do don't hold it verticle for long ;-)

It always depends on what your preferences are. I found that the automatics are good some times, but do require a bit more "puffing" to keep it lit long enough to get a good hit. They can also be very noise/wind sensitive, and go off in noisy conditions, so you have to keep an eye on that if you are going to a bar/club or concert etc... manual has more control, I prefer them most of the time, but I would not say you made a mistake. Try them out, see how you like them, you can always order a manual battery to see if you like that better, later on. It's not that big of a deal either way. Everybody's got different e cig needs, so just see what works for you. There is always a bit of trial and error with ecigs.

I dunno; I'm dripping a 510 on a manual right now; seems OK.
I don't seem to have the "vertical leakage" problem that my fiance does, but maybe that's cuz I carry it in a hoodie pocket and it really lies at about 55 degrees of angle down...

I will admit that a 510 pass-through (the one with the boxed battery near the USB plug) in auto abruptly failed a couple days ago, and I miss it. I would like one of the Uber pass-throughs from VT, but they are out of stock now... anxiously waiting for them to build up more...
