Mech mods have no circuitry or protection. It's preference. They are more dangerous so you have to be more cautious when building because a short will pop your battery instead of just refuse to fire... Which is why they're called unregulated mods. Regulated mods have circuitry to regulate the power. Are they worth purchasing? I guess if you want a mech mod they are. I use one sometimes, and they're good to have for a backup since they're so cheap. I got a fuhattan for 13 bucks, and it works great. I prefer the magnet switches so that battery current isn't going through a spring, and also prefer an adjustable or floating positive pin instead of direct contact like a hybrid mech mod, to prevent internal shorts. Watch some youtube videos and get acquainted with the different styles and their features and drawbacks.

call me cray, but I prefer my mech mods to my VV mods. That smooth vape is just a completely different experience.

It does boil to personal preference, but that being said, is it worth a high investment? meh. I had a hard time investing what I did into my box (granted its not a clone), but ended up doing so to support my local shop.

Ultimately, what makes you happy will determine if its worth the investment.
