Are genesis tanks dead? I've got a few collecting dust?

What about ceramic in gennies? I've seen them around at a couple of vendors. How are those?

It's the only way I'd do a dual. Chasing shorts on 2 coils is a pain. No shorts with ceramic.
I wasn't overly impressed with the ceramic I had's wicking. They needed tilted.

Very fragile. You can break them wrapping on the wick. And you can really break them if the deck can twist and it does accidentally.
But if you don't break them they seem to last (or I assume because I did break mine before I was ready to give up on them).

been down that road.....
it works but i found that working with SS mesh was still better than this alternative.
SS mesh wicks better and doesnt shatter if you look at it the wrong way.

I still like my genies but I don't really carry them anymore because of the leaking. I've been able to do builds that don't leak much but I don't think there is any way to build where it'll wick well yet not leak while sideways or upside down. now the genie stays home especially since I've become a bottom feeder junky :)

I don't really have much problems with hot spots, I've always twisted and mounted a coil and then slid the mesh wick into place, no pre burning or anything just pulse it out and good to go.

I've tried several times wicking my genie with cotton hemp tencel and rayon but I still think it's just best with ss. now this thread thanks to buzz's pics has got me thinking about ss wicking in my bottom feeder, I haven't played with ss mesh in a while in anything other than a genie so I decided to try ss in the bf's and yeah, it works really nice so far, can't say I'm going to stick with mesh in the bf's but I'm going to play with it a bit and see... I think I do get a bit more flavor pop with fiber wicking medias in the bf's but the ease and long lastingness of ss is nice too and it might be a worthwhile trade off maybe, gonna try it a few days and see :)

it's actually working really well in that last one, the multi twisted ribbon coil really holds so much juice on it's own that it works halfway decent with even no wick, ss may be nice in here, it's working really great in this one so far :)

so does anyone claim to have a way of building a genie that won't leak at all? I've seen some thing that kinda closed off the whole air inlet and drip tip opening for no leaks but forgot what atty that was... not that I'd run out and buy it, my next genie is going to be the new doc dave Ti steam turbine :)

If no leak is what you are after--use the fill plug.
I use straw ss mesh wicks mostly. If i have a coil wrapped to an appropriate resistance, that does not dry out my wicking too fast, the fill plug controls the wicking. No over wicking, no dry hits. I am most successful if i use ~1.0-1.5Ω.
I prefer the vape of a 0.6-0.7Ω coil, tho. To feed this resistance, i played around with and wound up using 100mm 325 mesh rolled onto an Allen key, making straw. I use at the present, Aga T3s. Big center placed wick hole. I wound up leaving the teeny weeny fill port open, to aid in wicking.
I have an old commuter mug. I place my mod in this, upright, when i drive to work. I pretty much do not have leaking issues. I am careful.
If i have a setup, even with a straw wick, and have my fill screw in, my gennies will not leak much. I experienced many more leaking issues w my Protanks, than w my gennies.

this is my build on the RSST...

it does not leak.
i've had it rolling around in a drawer to two days.
the inside looked "glazed" with juice, but not enough for it to leak out of the top cap.

this was my pocket carry while on vacation in Europe.

side note, Ti Steam Turbine is a wonderful vape.

I can't knock a bottom feeder. Never tried one but it always sounded like something that would suit me perfectly. Huge bottle for being out, a dripper that's never flooded. If anything would cause everything else to be dead that's what I'd think it would be.

My T2's don't seem to leak. I'd extend that to all of them as singles except they haven't gone through what my T2's have done. They do all get horizontal for at least short periods of time without a problem (except when I had the TD set up as a dual, that you could set down, look away, look back and the tank would be empty and a big puddle).
I vape in bed and sometimes I fall asleep with one laying on my chest and I've never woke up with a puddle or even a flooded chamber.
They all wick fine for me (2Ω@3.6v-4v) even vaped in the stand.

I can't think of anything special I do except I try to make the angle at the tank end head up towards the center post so bubbles can escape easily no matter which side they want to go to.
My first ones would get a little wet when set down for a while (not including the ones with the fill plug out, which would drip out of the tube if laid down). I think it's a matter of getting the wick to fit in the hole just right and having the tube hole just right for the liquid consistency. With no other way of air entry than the tube they only wick enough for the wick to get saturated and a vacuum keeps liquid from dripping out of the tube.
I imagine it could get saturated enough to flood from the mesh if given long enough but I haven't seen it since my early builds.

This is the one I use all the time and in bed. I had it and my TD laid down with the caps off while typing this and taking pictures neither dripped (if one would do it it would be the TD). It looks dirty but it is the T2 I just modified and rebuilt.
No leak_2209.jpg

This is a similar clean coil build on the same one before modification.

Here's a bubble rising with an unmodified T2 and clearer liquid. I just fired it sitting on the stand until a bubble started coming out.

This is a great thread, and worthy of putting in sticky ????, so people can digest.

very informative. Nice listening to the "pro" coil builders.

I got good enough at it by starting to rebuild CE5 clearos some time ago. <<<< That was futile, they start to lean when you take em apart a few times, they dont go back together right.... leak leak leak, but it helped me learn. Dual coil dripper, <<<< I could not get that baby right.

so whats a really good Genny, new stuff, is the Kraken top shelf?, huh> talking to the ones who have been there....

Im listening.... thanks....

For a long time, the MMVapors DID was the standard bearer, by which I judged all others. I have several others, including a couple Cobras, an AC9, Bliss, Ihybrd, ZAtty, etc. When I got the Krakens, they became my favorite. IMO, the Kraken is the best Genisis RBA out there, right now. I have two of them, which I run with dual mesh wicks/coils.

I don't know about a genuine Kraken but with clones you have to watch what one you get. I don't know if it's different brands or different runs. The local clone didn't have a plug for the 2nd wick. Mine is supposed to be Hcigar but I saw a review where I got it saying theirs didn't have a plug and mine does.
Not a huge deal, you can always make a plug, or if you want a dual not a deal at all.
I don't know how true it is but I've heard complaints that some have a screw on cover that doesn't line up with the wick holes. That could be a problem if you can't fix it.

I'm not so sure it matters what name you get.
If a gennie meets what you want it's good. If you can make it meet what you want it's good. I was surprised I was able to open my mini-DID clone up to the size I was able to get the T2, Kraken (clone) and Pulse (clone). I haven't built on it yet but it might turn out to be pretty good for an eGo sized ecig with that modification.

Most people complain about building on T2's, I love building them. Some love their RSSTs, some hate them.

Turbocad6--what gennie is that? I am guessing GKMF. Looks really nice, just curious!!

yeah that's the GKMF20, really nice atty. love the one piece body design... size is a little weird but it works sweet on the wizard evolved and really sweet on the frost f20 that it was originally designed for. it's 20.4mm

and yeah, Myk if anything can make everything else dead to you bottom feeding is it... don't get me wrong I still play wit my other high end tubes sometimes but bf's are my main daily vape and truthfully at this point I could give up everything else if I had to, blows everything else away in everything but size, sometimes you just can't beat a tube in 18350 or 490 for a compact pocket vape but nothing can touch the vape of a good bf to me, the vape can be even better than dripping because of the way it evacuates excess juice after feeding the wick and coil

btw the mesh is back out of the bf's, just too dry of a vape compared to fiber wick
