Are There Any Advantages Of 3 Piece Design Over Newer 2 Piece Designs?

I got the Vapor King and I can't see why anyone would want a three piece design...not that I've used one.

Can't be cost...the cartomizers (cartridge&atomizer) cost about $1.75 each and so far I have refilled one 7 times over 8 days.

Can't be vapor...this thing puts out as much vapor as a real cig would put out smoke.

Can't be quickness of heating...vapes the juice almost instantly.

Can't be ease of filling....takes less than 10 seconds with method learned on this forum

Only thing I can think is that the 3 piece would have more room for juice so you would have to fill slightly less...

So what am I missing?

I was using a 3 piece e-cig, and honestly stopped for a month due to frustrations with that style of PV. I got my VPK from vapor4life.com on thursday. I love this thing!

The biggest complaint I had was... I had to carry a bottle of e-juice with me everywhere as I had to refill the carts so often. Additionally the rubber plug for the 3 pieces cart always leaked. My case looks terrible now with all the juice stains.

With my VPK I get a bit over a full day from a carto. With the PCC case from V4L all I carry now is 1 battery and 2 cartos. I have had zero issues with my cartos leaking as well. The 2 piece stopper setup works like a dream for me.

My vote is 2 piece... I love my VPK!!!

Yea, I really like it as well. I thought I would have to throw the cartomizers out all the time but I just keep refilling and refilling the same one...

So there are no real advantages for a 3 piece???

I prefer the 2 piece design over 3 piece as well. Don't have to carry extra juice, refilling cartos is pretty easy and I can switch flavors as easily as screwing on a new carto.

Swaping out Flavs is a huge plus for me as well. I hated having to guess what flavor was in which atty on the 3 piece!!! Menthol butterscotch was by no means a hit for me.

And I've been using the same two atomizers and carts on a 3 piece for 3 months now...yes cost is a factor and the initial cost of the kit is cheaper too..

That depends on the juice and the type of cartomizer you're using "premiums" produce more than standard...but yes a 510 does put out more vapor..

Refilling on both is about equal...

Only thing I can think is that the 3 piece would have more room for juice so you would have to fill slightly less...

As for the amount of vapor and flavor... it comes down to the resistance on the attomizer or cartomizer... the lower the resistance the hotter the atty gets and the more vapor is produced (and the more flavor (in some cases, in other cases some flavors do better on a cooler atty)
so a 510 atty has a resistance of 2.3 Ohm
premium cartos around 2.5- 2.7 Ohm
Cartomiers about 3.0 Ohm
801 Atty about 3.5 Ohm
and a 901 about 3.7

So on a stock 3.7V battery the 510 will outperform a 2 piece or the other 3 piece models

Hope this helps explain why for ya...

But I will buy an inexpensive 3 piece unit just out of curiosity.

I prefer the 3-piece because I can drip and enjoy high voltage vaping without worrying about vaping melted plastic fumes. saw some nasty pics on this forum somewhere, somebody took apart their cartomizers they had been using and saw the insides were all blackened charred and burnt in places, scary

I also love the stainless steel T-tip I use on 510's along with dripping. the sticker-covered plastic mouthpiece on cartomizers... meh

Can't resist commenting after that last post. I recall reading on this forum of complaints of plastic rings burning on 510 atomizers. I believe that the modern cartomizers have eliminated the plastic compontents in the carts. If you vape them dry, you are liable to get a lousy taste out of cartomizers and cartridges alike. Personally I find you hit the bad taste a lot sooner in cartridges. As soon as the flavor starts to taste off, I reload or refill immediatly.

pics like this are why I don't use carts or cartomizers or even plastic mouthpieces, I only direct drip and use steel t-tip mouthpiece... I dont want anything plastic anywhere near the heat source

All the cartomizers I have ever had were steel. Of course I only started vaping Oct. 2009. That one you show Valhallah looks like the power got stuck on! Looks real nasty.

Carts as in atomizers or carts as in Cartomizers...I suppose I should have stated genuine Joye 510 2.3Ohm and not a knock off...
Cartomizers I was refering to the KR808d-1 (most common) at 3.0 Ohm... they will vary a bit but I referenced the average..

I prefer a 2 piece but yeah there are advantages of a 3 piece

you can remove filler to clean or replace it
you can direct drip/dip
you only have to replace either the atty or cartridge as needed
and some other stuff that I forget at the moment

On 510:

More vapor - see Drodz' posts.
More flavor for the ejuices I like - tobacco, cigar, french pipe, coffee/capp
Ability to Drip - even when using a cart, I drip a few drops on the atty
Cost of startup - cignot vs. whomever you want to put up.
No bitter 'underflavor' of many flavored cartomizers - remedied by buying blanks only.
Takes VG better
Mods use 510 connectors - remedied by adapters but some don't like using adapters...
Better in the event of a 'ban' scenario - more parts, etc. like owning a 9mm or .45 vs. a 10mm ;-)
