I ask because my gf and are are 31 and 32 respectively and our apartment looks like a toy store. We have action figures, books, movie posters, etc all over the place. Our shelves are filled with video games and horror/fantasy novels.

I'm just curious if anybody else out there is a nerd or lives in a "nerd dungeon".

I've been told the proper term is "geek". The difference is geeks are smart, nerds are just weird, and don't always have two brain cells to rub together.

That said, judging by the large Star Trek collection by husband has, and that my son is now following in his footsteps. Whatever you want to call them, I am living with 2 of them.

Nerds are very smart. But they have zero social skills. A nerd will read and understand "A Brief History of Time" by Stephen Hawking. But chances are they've never kissed a member of the opposite sex.

Geeks on the other hand, don't have nearly the social problems that plague nerds. It just so happens that our homes are filled with Star Trek and Star Wars toys. We like Monty Python. And have probably seen the original movie TRON several hundred times.

Well, my wife has 2 nicknames for me. Inspector Gadget and Super-Nerd. If it's a tech gadget I either have it or I am going to get it if I can. I started computers in 1981, and have been playing, building and repairing them ever since. World of Warcraft addict, ST:TNG, ST:TOS, and so many others. Even after 20 years of being out of school, I started college and after 2 semesters I have a perfect 4.0 GPA and working on it being my 3rd.

There is NO hope for me. ;)

rofl..I'm intelligent but had luck in high school with friends and guys, so i'm guessing I don't actually qualify as a 'nerd'. Plus, no obsessions with gaming or any sort of role playing, no ren faire fetish...so i'm thinking no. Actually, i have developed a recent obsession with 3d art...so maybe my nerd quotient is on the rise? lol What i am is a nerd lover. ;) I've always had a thing for geeky guys, for some reason. Sweet and intelligent and tend not to be gameplaying jerks..works for me.

Total geek. I work at renaissance faires, and am a card-carrying member of the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism). Getting into Steampunk, as well, as finances allow...

Yeesh....as finances allow is right! That is one es'pensive hobby. Thrilling, though. I've secretly got a mad passion for Kit Stolen, personally. Whup..just outed myself, apparently. ;)

Not so sure I get this "steampunk" thang. Sounds like youthful co-opting of something that already existed.

Steampunk was influenced by, and often adopts the style of, the 19th century scientific romances of Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Mark Twain, and Mary Shelley.

If that's legit then I'm a middle aged psychedeliclejazzhotanalogbassdpunk.

Nerd is over used. When I was a kid, the term nerd was used against me as a weapon. Back then there was no ironic cache associated with the word. It was just a flat out insult. Now people take pride in it to the point that most who self describe as nerds are anything but. Am I a nerd? In the classic sense, yes. I had idiot jocks call me a nerd for years in grade school. I got real nerd cred, not this hipster nerd-ethic crap that many people affect today.
