I read way back when I started vaping that PG was found to have an effect on the cold and flu virus. I held out hope. That first winter (I started vaping exclusively April 9th 2009) I went without my usual once a year "hit by a truck sinus infection" and thought that there may be some truth to the vaping/cold stories.

That was the last winter I went without a cold.

There is no doubt that most people get sick far less often after switching from smoking to vaping.
The only question is why.

Obviously, not smoking anymore plays a part.
But after years of reading this forum I have no doubt that vaping actually helps prevent colds and flus, and maybe even other things.

As for me, I've only been sick once since I started vaping four years ago.
And it lasted less than two days, as opposed to one week.

I used to get sick at least twice per year.

From my personal experience, I would have to disagree and say that there is doubt. In fact, last winter (after almost 4 years of vaping) I got one of THE WORST sinus infections I've ever had. But... to answer this:

The only question is why.

Dont take this as gospel. Its been a very long time since I've read the information, so Im going purely on vague memory. But, I think there was a study done where PG was released into a small room that contained cold and flu virus particles. The PG killed them. So, the thought was, if we vape, and are inhaling the PG into our lungs, we are in effect, creating a hostile environment for those virus's, or flat out killing them if we have them.

Obviously, not smoking anymore plays a part.

Correct. Smoking supresses the immune system.

But after years of reading this forum I have no doubt that vaping actually helps prevent colds and flus, and maybe even other things.

I wish I could agree with you. Unfortunatly, Im sure I'll be hit once again this year...

Could be vaping. Could be you simply havent been exposed to much of anything. Either way, I wish you continued good health.

You are correct. And when we exhale vapor we are actually helping to sterilize the air around us.

Same here. I use to keep a cold or flu it seemed like all winter. So far in 4 years I have not had either.

As far as I'm concerned it is indisputable fact.

The fact that some people do not share the same experience (no more/less colds) makes your indisputable fact, disputable. Which as a matter of fact, Im disputing :)

Not to mention that the study I referenced was conducted in a sealed room (if my memory is correct). Which makes this:

My only question is whether or not it is always a good thing to be killing so many microbes all around us.
:)

... disputable.

Because you got a cold?

No...

...Because I've gotten one every year since I started vaping. Just like I did prior to vaping.

And you're sure you'll get another one?

If the past is any indication of the future, then yes... Im quite confidant I can bank on getting my yearly cold/sinus infection.

I guess you're not one of the vast majority that voted yes then
(small sample size of course)
:)

To be honest, I didnt cast a vote. But If I had to, I would vote "Didnt notice any difference", meaning I did not start vaping and have a decrease in illness's... which you asserted is an indisputable fact of vaping. All Im saying, is that if 15% of those polled report no difference, then the fact you say is indisputable, is indeed both disputable... and not a fact.

;)
