I would have just blown a cloud in his face and asked him how good it smelled. In fact I have done this many times with people who question my vaping. They instantly perk up and become curious as to why it smells like they just walked into a bakery or candy store.

Everyone expects it to be a tobacco smell so it catches them off guard. Then we chat a bit about vaping and go on about our business. Sometimes it leads to others wanting to convert themselves and or family members who smoke over to vaping. In fact one guy (a non smoker himself) had me get him a bunch of stuff which he took over to family in Cuba. If he had only seen a device in a store it never would have grabbed him like it did with me vaping around him.
