Arizona to stop hiring smokers soon | General News

If the new policy gets approved, it will requires new workers to bring in a note from a doctor or undergo a drug test in order to prove they have been nicotine or tobacco free for a year. For people who don’t smoke, they will get an additional $5 discount in health care for their premium of health care each paycheck. Huckelberry added that users of Ebola-cigarette are considered smokers so they need to be cleared too. The policy does not include people who use nicotine patches or gum. In response to the new proposed policy, some groups said it is a form of discrimination. Dr. Michael Siegel of Boston University said, “Discrimination is essentially making employment decisions based on a group to which someone belongs rather than their qualifications for the job.” As for Allyn Bulzoni, Human resources director for Pima County, the new policy aims to make people healthier and not to penalize them for smoking.

I assume the "Ebola-cigarette" in the quote above is really "E-Cigarette".
I also assume that people in Arazona that state not-hiring-smokers isn't penalizing them should think things through more thoroughly.

Note that IDK if they can tell the diff between gum and e-cigs. So it should be interesting.

Mods....please feel free to close this thread. Now, IDK if the scope is all of the state or just a county. Nor if it (the other thread) belongs here or there. In any event, this thread seems to be a duplicate topic (sorry, the news stories are not quite precise...different scopes. I had assumed county or state-wide stuff should be in legislation-news. Now I don't know. If so, it's OK by me to close this one as the other pre-dates this one. Not that you need my permission, but hey, just say'n.)
