I noticed today that a local vendor I've bought a few juices from seems to be using artificial coloring. They have juices that are neon colors and pale blue colors.

Am i right in thinking artificial coloring is being used? And more importantly....is it still safe to vape without any possible side effects that aren't normally present in ejuice?

use your common sense... what value is the coloring if any at all adding to yourself?
and yes... there are dangerous flavorings and colorings in the hands of the wrong people like many
other solutions. know who you're dealing with.

common sense?

common sense has nothing to do with whether or not artificial colorings are dangerous.

For instance, if it is "common sense" that they are dangerous, wouldn't it also be "common sense" that artificial flavorings themselves are dangerous? If that is the case, why are we even vaping?

The answer is that we honestly do NOT know. We don't know the affects of inhaling vapor fumes with artificial sugars, flavorings, colorings, etc.

Personally, anytime I find a vendor uses artificial colorings in their e-liquids, I always try to 'opt out' of them. If the vendor acknowledges my request, awesome. If they don't....I usually don't keep ordering from them.

I'm a grown man, not a young teenager to be enticed by bright colors in my e-liquid. Not trying to insult or offend anyone, but I want FLAVOR in my e-liquid, not color.

If I really cared about the color, I'd just use delivery devices with tinted glass, lol. :)

Back to the specific question from the topic though, we are unsure how safe artificial colorings are. They could be harmless, dangerous, or somewhere in between.

+1 on this. Thank you

Being a relatively new vaper, my " common sense " could just be paranoia in disguise. And considering most of the juices I see are in the same color range, the neon colors raised a red flag with me.

Hence...my question on it ;)

I do my best to avoid anything in my juices that doesn't have to be there for me to vape it. Coloring juice adds nothing to my vape experience so I consider it not worth the risk in case it turns out one day to not be safe. I make my own juice so I know I haven't added color. If I knew there was color added, or suspected it, I would not buy the flavoring or the juice.

Of all the flavorings I have here none are neon colored or blue. All are some level of brown through to clear. FWIW, I have a blueberry flavoring that's clear. I think if you buy juice from a reputable juice maker that says they don't add coloring you can be reasonably sure they don't.

I tend not to vape anything I can't see through in the bottle. Yellow tint is generally from the nicotine content and gets paler as the nic percentage falls. If my juice is dark or brightly colored, I'd want to know why. Some of my Lorann's flavorings are dark, but the amount it takes to taste it in the vape is small enough that it is still somewhat clear to translucent.

We do know that PG or VG in the natural state is clear, so any other shades must come from food coloring or other flavorings. If they add some ungodly additive that makes it day-glo shades, count me out.

That's my experience so far. Which is why the neon colors caught my eye. It seems to me that if a " vendor " is adding coloring to try to boost sales based on appearance, what else are they adding to try to boost the taste to higher levels. Other than an added flavor shot

I have no experience in DIY juices so I'm not really sure the methods used to create flavors

It is Unicorn Blood from Fuzion Vapor...it is red...not pink.

LOL, as soon as you said " I have an e-liquid that is red..." I knew exactly what it was.

I've ordered Unicorn blood twice, and although it does taste really nice (when it wicks properly), I won't order it again, for two reasons:

1. As I said, I don't care for artificial colorings. We don't need it in our e-liquid, and although it doesn't bother some people, it bothers me.

2. Unicorn blood has a tendency to not wick properly for many people. This is either because of the artificial coloring, or added sucrose/sugars that it has in it. Many people (including myself) suspect a sugar additive is put in it, which gives it part of its taste. This unfortunately causes the liquid to have issues when the coil vapes it....and I've had all sorts of problems with it.

If it works for you, taste good, and you have no objections, vape on!!!

Fuzion is great, I have their watermelon on deck at all times.

Strange...I haven't had any problems with it (of course it is my first bottle) but I think now I may not order it again when it is gone. Bummer...being new and having trouble finding flavors I really like, it's gonna suck to lose a good flavor.

Over the years, many previously approved food dyes have been banned for various reasons, some quite serious.

I think it is possible that some vapers who report having allergic symptoms to vaping, wondering if it is the PG, VG, nic level, flavorings, etc etc, should be encouraged to consider if their symptoms could be related to the use of dyes in the eliquid that they are vaping.

Food coloring sensitivity seems to be the one stone that remains unturned.
