Ash has responded quickly to: An Open Letter to the Editor of The Peninsula, Qatar, Author: Jean Rasbridge Managing Director E Cigarette Direct post you can read here: OfficialWire: False Media Report On Electronic Cigarettes Will Cost Lives

ASH's response is declared war:

ASH RESPONDS TO E-CIGARETTE LETTER

saudiecig

Excerpts:

Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) has sent a communication, which responds to a letter written by an e-cigarette company, which alleged that a news article pointing out some of the dangers of e-cigarettes reported by the Food and Drug Administration [FDA] "could lead to the deaths of smokers and electronic cigarette users."

ASH provided information about potential dangers of e-cigarettes which were not included in the FDA's report, including the fact that some e-cigarettes are now being sold to admininter ...... as well as nicotine, and a new report concluding that e-cigarettes "are potentially lethal to children." ASH's communication is set forth below.

Action on Smoking and Health (ASH), a non-profit tax-exempt scientific organization, America's first antismoking organization, and one with extensive involvement for more than twenty years with nicotine, nicotine devices, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration [FDA], writes to provide you and your readers with additional information about electronic cigarettes to supplement your article entitled "Saudi Arabia to Curb E-Cigarettes" [Web posted at: 8/4/2009 2:28:44].

More specifically, we are aware of a so-called "open letter" written to you by the managing director of an e-cigarette company which, especially because it is written by an entity with an obvious financial interest in the topic, and someone who apparently has no scientific or medical training, may not reveal all relevant information.

...Other excerpts:

In summary, in evaluating e-cigarettes, we respectfully suggest that both your publication and your readers not rely upon the largely unsubstantiated representations of sellers (who have an obvious bias and usually no medical training or credibility), some allegedly supported by studies which have not been published in reputable medical journals and which may have been financed by the industry itself (thereby creating a clear conflict of interest).

Instead, we would urge your publication and your readers to rely upon the impartial governmental body charged by U.S. law with evaluating such products [FDA], major U.S. national health organizations which are impartial and have the necessary scientific authority and credibility to address these issues, and decisions by impartial and unbiased entities such as the Attorney General of Oregon, Facebook, etc.

In this regard you should find the links [URLs] set forth in this communication, as well as the many URLs contained in the linked documents, helpful. We urge you and your readers to consult them for the truth. The simple truth is that no reputable scientific study, much less one published in a major scientific or medical journal, has ever shown that e-cigarettes are any less dangerous than conventional tobacco cigarettes.

****Much more can be found at the link but at this pont in time there is an official PR war between ASH and e-cigarettedirect.

MORE ASH NEWS...declaration of effective paypal interference with a e-cig PR release offered as proof of THEIR efforts. Jeez, these guys are masters at manipulation!

You might wish to note that the ASH rebuttals are usually on PR Insider, and are often word for word from them, and not from an independent party. ASH uses their own propaganda then points to IT to back up their propaganda.

Got it straight from the www.ash.org website...evidently the proof was offered by e-cig PR complaining about ASH lobbying to shut them down.:D

Well, except for that one from that impartial government body...

Still a semantics war, still all about point-of-view... still waiting for the hearing...

Good point...let's keep digging at their efforts to achieve total domination of the world....or at least replacing ignorance with information about the smoking alternative. :)
Banzhaf's favorite media seems to be PR Inside. Flood that media with pro-e cig press releases just as he does. Follow him and hit him at all his favorite haunts.

Yes, I know about the PR website but it seems as soon as anything is released pro-e-cig they dust of older articles and post links to appear as if the info is popping up all over the place:

Fake cigarettes 'are potentially lethal to children' | Mail Online

In part:
Electronic cigarettes that are available to children in retailers and online stores contain enough nicotine to kill them, experts warn.
Battery-powered ‘e-cigarettes’ were introduced as a healthy alternative to smoking tobacco because they save users from inhaling tar and carbon monoxide.

But trading standards officers say they contain up to 18mg of liquid nicotine in refill cartridges which could prove fatal to young children if swallowed.

A dose of 10mg is understood to be lethal for children under 10.

Good catch!

That's almost ridiculously not funny...

I thought it ridiculous that ASH claims to be a "scientific" based organization, yet have nothing better to link to than Press Releases. Comparing Facebook to the Attorney General of Oregon, well that just might have been the most ridiculous thing ever.

They are persistent. If we could FLOOD the media, it would be a war of press releases. So, swallowing a bottle of liquid would be fatal to a child much as swallowing a bottle of bleach would be fatal to a child. My neighbor's 16 year old son mistakenly killed himself while inhaling brake fluid in the bathtub. I still get shivers thinking about that 25 years after it happened. I guess his parents didn't know that while they were gone, their son would put a plastic bag over his head and inhale the stuff while sitting in the bathtub. Perhaps they wouldn't have bought the friggin brake fluid if they had known. Keep liquid nicotine and bottles of bleach and cans of brake fluid out of the reach of children....problem solved.

It would be nice if all the scientific studies quoted had to say who paid for it, but that will never happen

But, you can trace it....takes time. 9 times out of 10, the trace will lead back to RWJF, the drug companies, and other groups connected to anti-smoking groups. IT IS ONLY ABOUT THE MONEY. Money buys science for these guys.
