Greenie,

Many Vets are knowledgeable and enthusiastic helpers of both new members and those with esoteric questions. The Mods may be knowledgeable but not everyone is suited to helping others with technical issues and suchlike. It's probably a bit like teaching, something of a vocation and something you personally need to do.

It can be a bit of a thankless task at times, but it needs doing and we should be grateful to those who can and will do it. The Vets do a really good job, they pick questions they can answer and the results are superb.

The problem originally was that beginners' questions were often mainly answered by almost-beginners, and while it is good to see that happening, the answers were not always reliable. The current system works exceptionally well. It's been through a few iterations, and now it performs its function very well indeed: it provides a place where good answers are automatically provided, and where you don't have to hunt through a thread to find the best advice.

If you see a question you can answer in the Vets 'pre-answer' section, then by all means wade in. Or, see what you can do in the New Members forum, help is always needed there.
