I went to a David Allan Coe concert last night. Small venue, less than 1000 people. No smoking and I decided since the only people around me all knew me I'd try taking a few puffs of my beloved AC juice. Well it took all of about 2 minutes before event staff(who were about 6 feet away) politely asked me to put it away. I was a bit surprised. But that's just how it goes I guess. Can vape on a plane but not at a beer filled redneck rock concert.

That's unfortunate. In those situations I wish I still had the blu I started out with. The super-minis give a satisfying enough hit with little to no vapor, and with their tiny form factor I always thought they would be ideal for stealth vaping. Sorry to hear you got denied the right of all vapers to non-offensively enjoy nicotine anywhere.

Well he's as much of a charcter as he can be at 70 years old, with a cane and a guy helping him walk on stage to sit on his stool. And he didn't play If that ain't country. A pretty good cover of Don't stop believing though. LOL and some Kid Rock And Dobie Gray covers too. But it was at Waukesha County Expo Center to answer your question.

Damnation....if I'd have known I might have made the trip up. I used to live in Waukesha...and Pewaukee. Worked over at GE Medical for 15 years.

I used to like DAC, but he did get a bit weird!

Similar thing happened to me at a concert except they were much more jerk-like about it. Before I started vaping, I asked the "staff" and began to explain my PV to them but before I got out 2 words they started going "No, no, no" and getting extremely defensive. I guess it didn't matter that half the people around me were all on/taking drugs and that the act I was seeing was pumping more fog into the atmosphere than I could ever dream to create with my PV but it seems these "staff" are allowed to act like Gestapo. I don't care that they told me "No", but its like they refused to even hear me out which is truly rude since its just common courtesy to listen to a person's request, actually think about the information they just provided you, and then make a decision.

In many cases, it is pointless to ask. Most of these authority folks are ignorant of the devices and rather than admit their ignorance, simply go for the "no...you can't use them".

If you really want to mess with their heads, tell them that according to the FDA the devices are nicotine inhalers and thus a medical device. Carry around a copy of the FDA classification and inform the "staff" that they are prohibiting a medical device and would they prevent a diabetic from taking an insulin shot on the premises too?

Hell...if the FDA is going to sieze shipments as medical devices....we might as well use the classification to our own benefit. ;)

Good idea. I normally try appealing to people's kinder selves in hopes that they actually want to see another human being happy, but its become apparent to me that anybody with a little bit of power likes to exorcise it as much as possible rather than give another human being a slice of joy. I'm going to try this next time because I am really sick of being treated like a leper when all I'm doing is being nothing but kind to whoever I'm interacting with.

David Allen Coe is probably the worst concert I have ever seen. He played at the club I now work at and he showed up an hour late cause he was across the river partying with family. Played maybe 30 minutes and left.

As far as the vaping goes, people around me are lucky that I work security and let it be know that it is fine to do, even if the owner doesn't agree with me lol.

"Excuse me sir, you can't smoke in here"

"Well, you didn't stop him!"

"He's not smoking, he's _vaping_"

"Looks like he's smoking to me!"

"Yes sir, it does to me too. But he's not. He's _vaping_."

"Well, if he doesn't have to put his out, I don't have to put mine out!"

[shaking head]

It's easier to just ban anything that looks like it and end the ruffled feelings before they even start.

Just because we quit smoking and took-up a new habit, we didn't suddenly become a protected class...

hehe I've also had that series of actions pictured in my head.. But i'd also add.. "Sir, is the thing in his hands that hes "smoking" from ON FIRE!!!?" :p

To me that would be a big tip off that it's not smoking.. We used to light stuff on fire to smoke..

Sure. And the business owner should require a training course for all their customer-base prior to entry to the business too... Or just wack the real problem at the start. Seems like an obvious choice for me. If the law prohibits smoking in an establishment (as it does here in California), I wouldn't allow vaping either. Far more problem than it's worth.

Well in these times when money is tight, i think i would try to make exceptions.. Because if you make customers happy, and not tick them off, then you get more business.. :D The customers that want to complain about your exceptions when it's legal are the ones that would complain about something else anyway.

The only reason why people can't smoke in buildings in such states (which is probably every state now anyway) is because of the law.. If that law did not exsist, i doubt many bars, restraunts, etc would ban smoking inside.. They'd just do what they've done in the past and have a smoking and non-smoking section..

Plus in retail, you'll always going to have people who are looking for anything to cause trouble with.. If it's not somone vaping, it's something else.. My roomie works in food retail and i hear it everyday..
