asking my FSUSA peers about airplane restrictions

Hi everyone - Enjoying my Black Friday shipment that arrived to me in NH Monday, which is great.

Question though - I will be flying to Puerto Rico (honeymoon!) in a few weeks. I'm wondering if anyone *has* flown with vaping supplies and what restrictions you encountered. I will *not* be checking baggage (because as much as I enjoy visiting PR, I swear it's 50/50 they'll lose your checked luggage).

I'm not looking for the general U.S. guidelines. I assume the liquids count as liquids and I can carry the number of bottles and ounces as if it were shampoo.

I'm wondering about batteries, atomizers, and my PCC. I know when I've traveled with a laptop they've had me boot it up because it's an electronic device...

So! I can speculate like anyone can, but has anyone traveled and *knows* the airport restrictions pertaining to PCC, batteries, atomizers? (I'd love it if they want me to demonstrate, like with the laptop. :) )

Clearly marked and grouped together in a plastic baggie/s that you pull out to show them is your best route. More and more TSA Agents are learning about PVs but there are plenty that have no idea. Make sure you juices are in labeled bottles within size restrictions.

Despite what you'll read in the traveling forum, stealth vaping CAN get you arrested. All it takes is for a Federal Air Marshal to be on board or a complaint from a fellow passenger and the police will be waiting for you on the other end. Everyone is on high alert this time of year. If you must vape in flight, do it in the restroom. It won't set off the detector.

I carry 1 ego battery with a 510 lr attie and drip tip. fully charged. I carry a second ego battery just in case. and I carry 1 3ml bottle of our juice clearly labeled and that's it. goes right through screening every time and they never say a word about it.
On the plane i keep the vaping on the down low. no since in pissing anyone off. A few folks have seen me doing something and a bit of vape escaping, only been asked by other riders about it a couple of times and they were interested enough to ask for a card.
Pamela and i do sell to airline pilots. They love the mega ego since it holds enough fluid and battery charge to get through even long flights. been told they keep it on the down low too.
Good luck in PR with your honeymoon. The sounds of the birds at night is soothing and relaxing :)

Hmm. I won't vape on the plane. I'll deal...

but David, 3ml only?? Yikes. I'm going for 4 days. Must have more than 3ml. Also, I love PR - I was stationed there for a few years in the 1990s, Coast Guard.

Two batteries and one atty? PCC not advised?

On the marked bottles point - I've carried shampoo in clear (unmarked) bottles... of course, I'm paranoid they'll take my stuff.

hmm. I can also have my sweetheart carry a few things, since I'm the only one who vapes.

Just noticed someone reference a traveling forum. I'll go look for that now. Thanks!

lol, sorry forgot to mention I send bigger bottles in the belly of the plane. Do you really think Pamela, a girl of her upbringing from New York can travel anywhere with just carry-on luggage???? Have you seen how Beautiful she is? Girl like that has to carry some serious clothing!!! :)

I vaped a bit at Logan in Boston when picking up my sister a short while back- no issues, and not too much stealth about it although I didn't try to make it obvious either. (Its tough to be too stealthy with a GGTS.)

I did see this question elsewhere though and while I do not have any knowledge of specific requirements, I do have experience with carrying stuff on international flights, etc.

Camera equipment confuses most people. If you have a camera, putting PV hardware in with that stuff is fairly certain to get it a cursory glance. Spare batts, attys and so on should be fine that way.

Congrats and enjoy your honeymoon.

I always keep all my e-cig related stuff in my carry-on. Juice goes in my quart bag with the rest of my liquids. Batts and atties in my purse.

I've been stopped once by TSA because of my eGo batteries. It wasn't that bad. He just asked me what it was, re-scanned it, gave it back, and sent me on my way.

I've never been stopped because of juice.

I never risk putting e-cigs in my checked bag because the thing is that if they are worried about it, you're not there to tell them what it is. People have lost e-cigs that way.

I took my 510's to Hawaii in October and stealth vaped on the plane. I stuck the 2 510's in my laptop case along with my charger. I even put pen caps on them, along with a bunch of other pens in the laptop case. I don't even think they knew the difference.:p I filled up my cartos at home before I left and 2 full cartos made it through the long day. I think I left home (Albuquerque) at 8:00AM and arrived in Hawaii at 4:00PM(about 12 hrs. total). I stuck my juice in my checked luggage though, did'nt want to be hassled with it.

When vaping on the plane, I just ducked my head under the blanket and vaped away. I did hold in the vapor longer so that I was'nt blowing out plumes of vapor. No one noticed, not even my wife sitting next to me:laugh: I also vaped in the bathroom as well. If you're worried about setting off the smoke alarm, you can just open the sink drain and it'll suck down the vapor.

Good luck!

Can vapor actually set off a smoke alarm? I have picky smoke alarms in my apartment and when firing up the heater for the first time this year, just the heated dust set it off. But my PV never has.

There is a thread in the travel section where someone set one off on a commercial plane. It is kind of a funny read.

Yeah, that's the one I read that made me a little uneasy about vaping in the bathroom. But the sink drain worked great to suck all the vapor down. Another option is to just hold it in longer which makes less vapor on the exhale.

I haven't vaped on a plane but have stealthed in the terminal. I carry my eGo and spare parts through security in my backpack all the time and have never been bothered by TSA. I forgot to put my 5ml bottles in the bag one time and they never said a word. So I quit doing it and have made 5 or 6 trips this year without any issues.
I did see in the inflight magazines for Delta and American that they include ecigs in their smoking ban on planes.

I went from newark to Orlando last February. I put everything in the bags on my carry on. I had 2 or 3 10mg bottles and all my 510 stuff for a week trip. I only vaped in the bathrooms at neward, but on the way home, i did it stealth on the plane in my seat. It was dark, so I just had to hide the light. I didn't want to take a chance and have my stuff taken since I couldn't replace it on vacation.

And I think I read that post about setting off the alarm in the bathroom. Pretty amusing.

No one ever seems to care when ever I travel. I just tend to be respectful to other people about it, and try not to make it a big deal, maybe hold a vape a touch longer to cut down on the exhale...

I'd say stay away from those naked body scanner things though. Talk about a violation of your right to privacy. The radiation back splash must be wicked. Going through them is about 50 times that of a normal chest x-ray. And if TSA grabs you any were a bathing suit would cover, for avoiding there naked scanner, you have grounds for a Sexual assault suit...

But no more Big brother talk... Have fun in PR!
