Tom, I wonder if the wattage ratings for the 0.5 ohm coil is based on the coils for the Atlantis 1? The newer style coils do have larger wicking holes (they look to be about double the size) so the 0.3 and the 1.0 ohm coils should be in this newer style. Although the 0.5 ohm coil that comes as a backup coil in the Atlantis 2 also has the larger wicking holes.

Yeah, I think the wattage rating for the new .5 ohm coil is definitely based on the old style coils. They use the same type of wire, I'm pretty sure it's 2" of 26g kanthal fused with non-resistant wire for the top and bottom sections of the coil.
When I got my Atlantis 2, like 2 & 1/2 weeks ago, I swapped out the .3 ohm coil for the .5 ohm coil because I didn't want to run it on my sigelei 100w and go through juice twice as quickly.
Not only do the coils have larger wicking holes, but the coil itself is a larger diameter. And the new .5 ohm coils definitely hold up much better at 30w than the old. The one I have had lasted longer than any of my old style .5's.
Not to mention that the old style coil read at .6 ohms on my sigelei 50w's display and the new coils read at .5 ohms on the same box

The "old" and "new" style coils are not different diameters. The coil is a wider diameter coil on the "new" coils. Here are two shots of the "old" and "new" 0.5 ohm coils (old is on the left, new on the right). So the hole in the center of the coil is larger on the new.

Jseah - You said exactly what I said haha. 70-80w for the .3 ohm coil & 20-30w for the .5 coil. And yes the 1 ohm coil is rated for 40-50w. I'm not going off of aspire's website, I have an Atlantis 2, I'm going off the readings on the coils themselves. I tried quoting your post but it didn't show for some reason
I've been saying the same thing, too! I ordered the 1.0 ohm for my istick 30 & hope it will fire up.

Is the version two really an upgrade? That non-removable drop tip seems like a downgrade

Actually, the drip tip is removable. The portion above the knurled air control collar is the part that comes off. The drip tip is wider than a standard 510 drip tip, so you won't be able to replace it with something different.

From my experience, that extra air control really only comes in handy when you are firing it above 70 watts. It really helps at that point to cool the vape down. Below that, it just lets in too much air and it totally mutes the flavor of the vape. With the 0.3 ohm coil, I vape at around 50-55 watts and I close off that top air control. With a nickel coil, I vape it on my rDNA40 at 40 watts and I close off that top air control. The only time I open up that top air control is if I am vaping at 70 watts and up.

It's removable and aspire is also selling an adapter for a standard drip tip. The Mutation X v3 drip tip fits as well

let me know how the 1.0 ohm coils are. I've been using the new .5 ohm coils at 30w (you can push them to about 35w) and they're great.
