Hey guys,

I originally posted this in the hardware specific section but haven't gotten any love so here goes...

I have been off real cigs for a few months now which I'm super happy about, no desire to go back. I kicked the habit with the aspire K1 Ego tanks and since upgraded to Nautilus mini which I enjoy, I'm primarily mouth to lung hitter. In between the two tanks I was sold an Atlantis by a local B&M, the guy said most buy a Nautilus mini then upgrade to Atlantis anyway so he said it would save money. I couldn't really get into it taking lung hits and still really don't enjoy it but am wondering if my technique is off?

I tried 12mg juice in there and it was really rough, I've since dropped my nicotine to 6mg across the board, and tried that in the Atlantis, it gives a harsh mouth and throat feel if I try to lung hit, I also get the same experience if I use 0mg juice. I've tried MtL hits and it doesn't really produce any vapor. Attempting lung hits I've tried all wattages from 15-30W with same results, also I keep the airflow all the way open. I try and inhale deep and quick thinking more airflow might 'dilute' the vapor and make it feel less harsh. Also this is Atlantis1, and I've only tried max or 100%VG juice.

What technique/settings do you guys use and what should it really feel like doing lung hits on this tank? When he sold me the tank I used it once in the shop and it felt very very smooth on the inhale and smooth on the exhale as well as very dense and tasty and pleasant, for the life of me I can't replicate it. Alternatively, is there a tank or RBA/RTA/RDA I can try for MtL hits that will produce that really dense vapor feel?

TIA for your help, I know it probably sounds like a newbie question lol 'how do I use my tank' but I am stuck!

Good to hear that you've been cig free for some time! What device are you using to power your atlantis? I normally vape my atlantis between 27-31 watts. It could be the coil burning out. Since you're using max vg juice the coils might not be wicking efficiently, so you get a lot of dry hits, which could result in the harshness. It could also be the juice itself thats giving a harsh taste. Did you try any new flavor or brand and see if theres a difference? It could be the type of nicotine they use giving the harshness. I've had my atlantis for a while now and had no issues other than some bad coils. Normally I run it with the 2nd largest air slot too.

That was my thought as well, that the juice they tried initially was a little thinner and wicking better.

Yea it's either that or the type of juice. I know when I started vaping I was using the house made e juice from the store and it normally gave a decent throat hit. But since then I found a new place that sells premium "name brand" e juice like ANML, etc. and they are as smooth as ever giving no throat hit with the same nic level.

My ADV is 65% PG @ 6mg from Nicoticket and while it does have a throat hit it's not what I would call harsh at all. But I have had some "house" juice from a local store with a much higher VG% that was rough as John Wayne toilet paper.

I'm not sure what the juice was that wasn't harsh, i believe it was a no nic cuttwood juice so 70/30? The coil is relatively brand new, it seems to be wicking just fine vapor production is not really an issue with a deep hit, it just gives an overall harsh feel like if you were to inhale and exhale a cigar, kinda burning/tingling sensation on the tongue/back of throat/roof of mouth. the juice I have in there now is from vistavapors so it's an 'economy' ejuice, I do have some nice smooth juice from velvet cloud I can try though I never realized different companies nicotine types could cause such a difference in experience.

when you lung hit, are you supposed to draw very quickly with tons of air or slow and smooth? like i said i've been trying to draw as fast as possible hoping more air would alleviate it but maybe i'm going about it wrong.

also is there a subtank that can be used for MtL hits that might work as a 'transition tank' between the two? I think I read somewhere something by Kayfun works well, anything rebuildable would be nice as I would like to get into that soon.

Thanks for all the help so far.

I think I now what you are trying to say. Almost like you are caught in between wanting to open things up and full on get it with a big draw and being disappointed because it's not comfortable??!! I was there. I would be willing to bet that being somewhat early in your vape journey, it's awkward right now.

You will become more acceptable to bigger direct lung pulls as time passes. It takes a little getting used to. I thought I would always be a MTL vaper but slowly began to really enjoy longer lung vape as I progressed

The Atlantis V1 is nice, I like it more than the V2 flavor wise. Have you tried closing it off a little for more comfortable draws??

It's your juice. I've used Vistavapor before and even at 6MG max vg there juices tend to be harsh which is why I know longer use them. They're not completely horrible in a nautilus but sub ohm they're horrible. Try mount baker vapor if you want better economy juice. I haven't used them but they are spoken of fairly highly around here.

Sort of. When i first tried whatever he gave me it was smooth as hell, and a little much but in a 'hey that was fun' kind of way, very dense velvety exhale the first first time. I just tried putting my velvet cloud juice in and honestly it seems outrageously better already than the vistavapes juice i had in there so maybe I've just been using crappy juice or a couple wierd flavors and that's my problem. When i first got it I was still on 12mg juice and that hit hard as hell so I ordered this other stuff but never knew about different qualities of nicotine, just kinda thought the cheaper places were selling more bulk and being nice haha guess there really is a huge difference in ingredient quality. the old flavor is still stuck in the coil but like i said a LOT smoother so far so hopefully I'm on the right track. Thanks again guys will keep you posted a little later.

If you could, try and get some e-juices off drip club or other websites that sell name brand e juices. You'll notice a huge difference right away in terms of the flavor and smoothness. Normally premium juice companies use better nicotine and VG/PG compared to house made e juice, so you get a much smoother taste. My ADV is Clancy's Sunburst. It's really smooth and fruity. No throat hit.

When I want a MtL i set the slot wide open and do a normal medium speed drag. Pulling too fast could get juice to spit up and what not, and pulling too slow isn't efficient. Right in the middle is where you want to be. You'll get used to it in time.

OK i definitely think it was the juice, seems MUCH better now, I can take some good pulls up to like 4-5 seconds if i try then my throat starts to hurt/itch a bit but I think thats just vapor overload at that point lol. Doesn't seem like I can taste the juice as much though as when I MtL hit is that normal or does that take getting used to as well?

It does try pointing the drip tip towards the roof of your mouth, or if that's too awkard point it towards to back of your throat and raise your tongue up so the vapor flows over it and see how that works.

I use the atlantis with a milk based juice. ie Mothers milk or Looper by ANML. I have my tank wide open and vape at 30 watts using an eleaf 50w machine. I lung hit every time and find the vape to be very smooth even considering that I vape 12mg nic. I have never had a dry/rough hit. IMO I personally prefer the kanger sub tank mini over the Atlantis 1/2. The coils last longer and so does my e-liquid. Also I find it easier to re coil/wick on them.

I've played around with my technique a bit and think i'm starting to get the hang of the whole lung hit thing lol. The way I inhale seems to make a difference if I inhale only to the upper portion of my lungs it seems to be smoother than if I go for a really deep full lung inhale but I can taste it much more today, and seems to taste different, more complex I suppose than with a MtL hit. I've read good things about the Kanger Subtank mini and was thinking about picking one up, I didn't know you can re-wick them that would be cool since I would really like to start rebuilding at some point soon.

Glad it's coming along, I never paid attention till now but when I lung hit my stomach area contracts and from the sternum up expands like you described and all I get is a smooth lung filling blast of awesome. :D

Do me a weird favor, try and take a hit like you were going to get a lung full of air to go swimming and tell me if it feels harsh just to see if it's maybe just me, that's the way I was doing it before

I gave it a shot definitely not as natural feeling as the other way, and definitely not more enjoyable. So I guess that could be called harsh, the again I'm vaping juice and a build I'm used to so it wasn't horrible just felt weird.
