Hi everyone!

So, I'm only *relatively* new to vaping. I started vaping getting close to a year ago with a pen vaporizer called the Infuse Edge, which is an Avail Vapor product.

I upgraded about two days ago to a mod called "Moxie" and the Aspire Atlantis tank thingy (I'm not good with the technical terms, though I know them in my head!). I've got a decent battery through Avail as well.

However, I noticed pretty soon after I started using my new set up that my Atlantis was making loud popping, gurgling like noises and was popping juice into my mouth! It didn't bother me at first, but I like to research and so I started looking up what it meant.

The first thing I found: a flooded atomizer. So, I:

-gently q-tipping the drip tip/mouth piece in case there was liquid in there (there was)
-I swapped the wick a bit and primed it again with some juice to be sure it wasn't dry.
-I milk shake sucked the hell out of it, to get the air bubbles out.
-I flipped it upside down and tried to burn off the excess liquid.
-I made sure that I could see the wick things at the bottom of the chimney near the teeth things.
-I tried taking the battery out of my mod and putting it back in (haha)

All of these things worked, for a few puffs, then it started shooting liquid at me again! It's not a whole lot, but they're pretty big, hot pops that generally don't taste great if I lick them off the roof of my mouth.

I really like my new set up and I'd hate to have to get something different. Any ideas on how I might be able to fix this issue? I love the clouds this thing makes and it's flavor is great. When it doesn't pop, the hits are sweet and smooth...

My mod has a digital display that tells me:

That my battery is 3.8v
It's 0.6 ohms, though without the Atlantis on my mod, the mod shows 9.9 ohms
When I take a hit, the battery uses 3.3v
I'm not entirely sure about my PV/VG juice ratio... I use 1.2% nicotine if that helps at all.

Sometimes, my display tells me "weak battery" but not always. Could this be the problem?

Any advice or help would be amazing and appreciated!

Hi Eiren and welcome to the forum.

A bit of spitting is the nature of the beast to be honest, especially with a new coil, but you can do some things to reduce it.

First of all, I'd suggest turning your device down a bit - this can help in reducing the spitting. Conversely turning it up can also sometimes help. Adjust your voltage up and down and see if you can find a sweet spot where you enjoy the flavor and vapor but the spitting is reduced.

Secondly, you can get a longer or crooked drip tip to prevent any juice getting into your mouth. I used to use a bent drip tip and that eliminated all the juice splatters getting into my mouth.

You can also try different liquids. Some manufacturers add certain other liquids (like alcohols, lemon juice, distilled water etc.) and some do spit more than others. I've not noticed a difference in amount of spitting by changing the ratios myself, but I suppose it's possible.

Finally, I found my devices tend to spit more when I haven't vaped for a while. They can pop pretty violently and I am usually mindful of pressing the button for a few moments before I take a vape. I think this is the condensation from the drip tip draining into the coil and being boiled off - but I am not sure to be honest, but it can make you jump if you are not ready for it.

I'm sure others will have more tips to add to try to help.

Thanks so much for your reply and welcome!

I wasn't sure if the spitting was normal because my other one never did it! I guess I got lucky with that, haha. It wouldn't be frustrating me so much if it didn't just spit a mouthful into my mouth about ten minutes ago... I think something might be wrong with the battery or maybe the mod I'm using just because it keeps giving me the "weak battery" thing and it changed voltages randomly on the display as well...

I think I'm going to head down to Avail tomorrow and see what's up. This thing wasn't the most expensive ever, but it wasn't cheap! Maybe they'll exchange it for me to be sure. :/

Anyhoo, thanks for the advice on the drip tip, I might look into a crooked one tomorrow just because no pops would be fantastic, haha! C:

Again, thanks so much! x)

You are quite welcome :) hope you figure it out.

I just looked at the Moxie mod and it's a variable wattage device - so this means that your voltage might well vary slightly as the resistance of you atomizer changes naturally as you vape it. It shouldn't be changing by large amounts and it shouldn't usually be changing all the time though, so a quick trip to the store can't hurt.

Maybe they'll have some more advice about some things you can try to stop it spitting as much.

Well that makes sense, haha. It only went up by one on the "standing" voltage (where it tells me the battery voltage) but the voltage of the battery when I use it jumped up from 3.3 to 3.8! It burnt my mouth a second ago, so I'm just going to leave it alone until tomorrow and just use my edge until then haha. C:

The popping tends to be normal with coils, don't worry about that so much. When you're priming your coil (with the milkshake hits as you say, I like the term haha), make sure you do not drip juice on to the top of the mesh screen where the coil screws into the chimney. That will definitely make your device spit up juice into your mouth.

My wife uses an Atlantis and she usually primes her new coils with 2-3 drops of liquid down the center of the new coil. Then after filling up the tank and tightening everything down, takes a pull or 2 to get the liquid flowing a bit into the coil, and then vapes away. The popping and gurgling is normal, but she has never complained about juice in her mouth. She uses the stock tip that comes with it.

Your mod should not really jump too much in voltage. Try cleaning the connections on your tank and your mod. wipe it down with a paper towel, and then if the connections look all dirty, a cotton swab with alcohol should help.

3.3v using 0.6ohm (0.5ohm) is 18 watts (is that right?)

Two thoughts spring to mind. Maybe the "Moxie" mod doesn't like running lower ohm coils (despite what it says) or perhaps your battery isn't really up to the job?
And, in fairness, 18 watts isn't much power for the Atlantis, and if the coil head is designed to wick liquids running at 25-30 watts, say, then it could well be flooding.

I'm not so sure about the Atlantis but I do have some experience with the Kanger SubtankMini v2. I'm not sure how similar they both are in design but here's what I find generally, some of it refers to the RBA & some for the premade coils but I believe the principles are the same.

1) (Wicking/power) Too much juice w/ too little power, juice is being sucked up by air pressure. Little vapor, alot juice.
2) (Wicking/power) Too much juice w/ adequate or too much power, juice is being flashed boiled & 'explodes'. Air pressure sucks it up with the vapor. Okay/alot of vapor, alot of juice.
3) (Coil position/wick/air pressure) Coil too high from air intake hole, the air is coming in & up like a jet-stream? Forcing too much juice in... Try to move the coil nearer to the bottom airhole, but dont touch or block it, at least 1mm clearance, no more than about 2mm. Beware of shorts! (RBA)
4) Sucking style/pressure... Coming from a RDA capable of deep hits to a RTA, I was able to straw the juice up from the subtank's drip tip! Relaxing or increasing the pressure or adjusting the air holes may help depending on what the problem is.
5) Juice... Regardless of PG/VG ratio on the label, some juices just wreak havoc in the setup.

It's okay to have some condensed juice in the drip tip & some rare spits into mouth I guess. Hope this will help somewhat =)

Hi everyone! Thanks for all of your advice!

It turns out that it wasn't the Atlantis at all causing the problem. When the guy at Avail sold the mod to me, he put the wrong adapter in the battery case of the mod -_- because he was too busy showing off his vape tricks.

At my normal Avail, the guys immediately knew the problem and changed the adapter for me. C: I did get a new drip tip and now, the whole set up is AMAZING. I'm very happy!

Apparently, because the battery wasn't making a good connection, it would sometimes suddenly connect and send a TON of volts through the mod or something. Maybe I explained it funky, haha. C:

Everything is prefect now!
