Close.... but if you look a bit more closely at the diagram, layer C (organic cotton) is touching the coil

As for the people complaining about an initial burnt taste, or black flakes showing up, that is layer C (organic cotton) burning off. To remedy it, they need to let the new coil sit longer to allow their juice to fully wick through all the layers. Or "prime" the coil with a couple of drops of juice from the inside (and still let it sit a bit longer in a full tank).

I'm with Guzz, after tearing apart a number of mine to rebuild/rewick,the black flaky crap on the coils and what comes up into the drip tip from time to time is from the single sheet of cotton that contacts the coil. It's a bit less thick than the outer pressed layer on KGD cotton pads (both when dry). The inner layer of mystery material was ALWAYS intact.

On coils where I was very liberal with juice to saturate it before use and gave it several minutes to soak in the tank before vaping, there was no patch of missing material, and less discoloration where it comes into contact with the three loops of resistance wire in the stock coil. Still get gunk on the coils since I vape heavy VG juices in general.

After the first few coils wore out on me fairly quick vaping at 30w, I tend to run my prebuilts between 25 to 27 watts, which probably helps with the lifespan and lack of burning now, compared to cranking it up to 30 watts or more.

I am doing 2-3 tankfuls per day... BUT - I have the 5 ml tank on my Atlantis! So we're about the same!

These sub ohm tanks really do suck up that juice fast!

Hot Tip -- Buy the high capacity tank, then buy yourself a spare base hardware for $10 and you'll have 2 Atlantis tanks! (I did!)

As I stated in another thread where you posted this link: It's odd that Aspires website and their forums make no mention of switching to an all cotton atomizer head.

Stranger yet is that Kidney Puncher is the only online retailer advertising and selling these "All cotton new Atlantis coils". I am not saying this is bogus, but it is strange that no other information is out there regarding a new "all cotton" coil for our Atlantis tanks! Also the KP price of $21 is highway robbery, whether these are newly designed coils or not!

Yea, I didn't think it was too good of a deal either. I provided the link just to show folks that they're coming. Kidney Puncher has a very good reputation, I seriously doubt they would advertise these as being made by Aspire if they weren't.

If the material is wet, doubtfully it'll flake. Do the test yourself, if you need to.
I've been vaping on silica in everything for 5 years. No silicosis signs whatsoever. You just started. Learn from our experience, silica is safe.

Ps: my father was a materials professor at college, we both are engeneers speciallized in plastics. We tested everything thoroughly in our lab. It's safe. Take my word for it. It's safer than cotton.

There are different kinds of silica; one kind is OK for vaping--and it's been discussed on this forum for quite some time, long before Aspire introduced their fiberglass/ceramic wicking material. Amorphous silica, commonly used in wicks by all (or most) e-cig manufacturers, has been deemed safe by our resident chemists and is even approved by FDA for use in food and medicine.

So, the question under discussion is not whether Aspire is using silica fibers or not, but what kind of silica they are using, exactly. Their lab test clearly states that the material tested is fiberglass. And fiberglass (crystalline silica) is not suitable for inhalation.

I don't know why KP is advertising those as all cotton. There is no word from Aspire that they have switched to all cotton. This is the latest statement from Aspire I've seen (Feb.2):

BTW, Melo coils work in Atlantis tanks, are all cotton and can be had at half the price.

Not before Chinese New Year, I'm afraid... Everything is on backorder. Those coils are very popular, apparently.
