ECF,

So I'm pretty new to vaping after buying a ....ty blu pro kit a while back and I'm looking to up my game.

I've been doing a fair bit of research but there's so much on offer it's pretty overwhelming.

I'm thinking of throwing myself in the deep end and trying sub ohm vaping which I can just learn along the way.

I was looking at buying the Aspire Atlantis v2 tank but am not sure what battery to go for?

I was initially going to just go for the Aspire CF sub ohm battery but would rather something VW/VV.

Alternatively I was thinking the Eleaf 30W or 50W istick but I've heard kind of mixed reviews and to be honest would rather something tubular shaped but can't find a lot of high quality, high wattage, variable batteries that are tube shaped?

Give me your knowledge on all of the above please, it'll come in very useful when I come to actually deciding! I'm also interested in learning more about different ohm coils/DIY coils and how easy this would be for the Atlantis v2? What kind of wattage do you go for for what coil etc?

Many thanks,
Jim

Gonna want something beefier than the CF sub ohm. Take a look at the mvp 3 pro. Even at only 60 watts it should do the tank justice. It'll rock the 0.5 ohm coils just fine at 50 ish watts. The 1.0 ohm coils will do fine around 30 or so watts. The 0.3 ohm coils will need the whole 60 watts to start working optimally.

Below are the recommended wattage (per Aspire) on their new Atlantis v2 coils

1. 20-30W (0.5ohm coil)
2. 40-50W (1ohm)
3. 70-80W (0.3ohm)

I have not tried the new v2 coils but I do use the 0.5Ω v1 coil at 45 watts.

Finding a tube shape vv/vw mod that goes up to 70-80 watts is going to be difficult.

hi Jim and welcome to the forum. If you're jumping into sub ohm and want to use the .3 ohm coils I'd recommend at least a 70 watt mod and probably suggest a 100 watt mod just to have some headroom (not pushing the mod to it's max every time you vape it). I have the Kanger Subtank Mini and use it's 1.2 ohm coils from 15 to 18 usually. I have gotten so much satisfaction at this level I haven't moved lower. You'll have to find your own stride in vape.

Coil wrapping is pretty easy. Easier if you get a coil rig. Watch You tube videos.

For DIY I have these links ... I'd suggest finding some recipes you might like before even thinking about buying supplies and also suggest you tube...

Is there something similar of decent quality but a little cheaper - maybe £40 GBP ish? Box mods seem the way forward I guess

Since high wattage is a requirement for the Atlantis v2, you are going to have to live with a box mod I think. Like Susan said, finding a high powered tube (that isn't a mech) will be difficult, if not impossible. I don't know the whole market off the top of my head but I think Provari 3 is the highest wattage you're going to find in a regulated mod

The Atlantis v2 comes with a 0.3 and a 0.5 ohm coil. I also just purchased two packages of the 0.3 and two packages of the 1.0 ohm coils (MFS 40% off coils sale). You can definitely rock the 0.3 ohm coils at 70-80 watts, although the vape gets pretty warm and the tank bottom heats up quite a bit. I was vaping it at 60 watts with no noticeable loss of flavor and very little loss of vapor.

I'm currently using the 1 ohm coil in an Atlantis 1 and I am vaping it at 40 watts. With just the one air intake in the bottom hardware versus two in the Atlantis v2, the tank bottom does start to heat up if you start chain vaping. I believe Aspire rates the wattage of the 1 ohm coil higher than the 0.5 ohm coil because the wick holes have been redesigned and are much larger on the new coils. The 0.5 ohm coils that come bundled with the Atlantis v2 has these larger wick holes as well.

A good mod for the Atlantis v2 will be one that tops out at a minimum of 60 watts. Such as the new Innokin MVP 3 Pro (60 watts), or the IPV Mini 2 (70 watts, but smaller than the Pro) or the SX Mini M Class. Any of the Sigeleis such as the 75 watt, 100 watt, or 150 watt models will work fine if you don't mind a larger size. The larger size will also include the IPV4.

Great thread for information! As a new vaping enthusiast, and having purchased an Aspire Atlantis 2, I've learned a lot from this thread.

I'm using an Innokin MVP 3.0 Pro with my Aspire Atlantis 2, and I love it. After reading this thread, I realized I should vape at a higher wattage though with this thing.

How important is the ratio of wattage used compared to the coil resistance?

I'm using a 0.3 ohm coil, and vaping at 45 watts. Is that risky for the tank or mod, and if so, why?

Cheers for this. Having had a quick browse the ipv mini 2 seems like it could be the one! Pretty reasonably priced for a 70w box mod and it ain't ridiculously big! What's the deal with swapping out the 18650 batteries? Does this need to be done often/what brand do you reckon I'm best going for if I'm after good quality?

The three most popular and trusted batteries are Samsung 25R's, LG HE2/HE4's and Orbtronic SX30's. The Samsung and LG's are 20 amp continuous batteries, and the Orbtronic's are 30 amp continuous batteries. I am currently using the Samsung's in my IPV Mini 2. The Orbtronics are maybe 1/2 mm taller than the Samsungs and I have a problem in keeping the battery cap on if I try to use the Orbtronics. The Orbtronics are 2100 mah batteries and the Samsung and LG's are 2500 mah. Depending on the wattage you are vaping at and how much you vape, the battery could last you a whole day or less. You definitely want to get two batteries, so you can use one while the other is charging.

Remember that those wattages are recommendations, not requirements. You should always adjust your wattage based on what you prefer (i.e. warmer vape will need higher wattages). Granted, if the recommendation is 70-80 watts and you try using it at 10 watts, the power will be too low to actually heat the coil up enough to vaporize the juice.

What would you say to this one:
Genuine Efest 2500mAh IMR 18650 BATTERY - 35AMP BATTERY - FLAT TOP https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00IKTCZ9W/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_9iyCvbKDE5T8V

Seems to get a decent write up

No experience with Efest, although everyone says that Efest doesn't manufacture their own batteries, and just purchase them from other manufacturers and then rewrap them. Also, the 35 amp that they advertise is the pulse amp limit, not the continuous amp limit. Their 35 amp battery is actually a 20 amp continuous battery. The 2500 mah indicates that it is most likely a rewrapped LG HE2.

Hi there.
For starters, make sure you are happy to lung hit. There's very little point in sub ohming if you prefer mouth to lung. Secondly, research ohms law and battery safety and make sure you understand it. Third, If you want flavour and clouds, jump right into rda's. It's not for everybody, but it will always give you the best results for home vaping. If you want simplicity, value and performance, then you cannot go wrong with subtank mini on a good box mod. The atlantis is also good, but more power hungry. Just remember, subohming doesn't always give the best results. A solid vw mod pushing a well built 1+ohm coil/s can deliver huge flavour and clouds. Sub ohm coils coils are just one way to get clouds and vapour.
I have the following kit after 11 months:
Subtank nano
Billow v2 rta
Mutation x v5 rda
Tugboat rda
Istick 30W
A black Kbox (very nice mod)
Mahatten mech clone
2 awt 35a pulse 20a cont imr batts
1 brillpower 35a cont imr batt
Intelligent charger
Ohm reader
Multimeter
Coil jig.

Happy vaping.

The IPV Mini 2 is roughly in the 40 pound price range but you'll need a good, high amp limit 18650 battery as well. And I'd recommend a wall charger as well. It will vape at higher wattage though and you'll get more from the tank.
This is what I was going to recommend. Places are selling them so cheap and it's a great device. Hope you find what you're looking for.
