Just curious to everyone's experience with these. I am really enjoying the
nautilus but feel like I'm blowing through coils faster than I should be. I am replacing them every 3-6 days. Is this typical? Also, does lack of vapor indicate the coil is ready to be trashed? The flavor doesn't necessarily turn on me I just get less cloud which frustrates me.
I am careful not to fry them, I use the 1.8 ohm coil and set my voltage at 3.7.

3.7x3.7/1.8=7.6W.

My experience so far:
I run my nautilus @ 7.5-8.0W depending on the ambient temperature (I use 50/50 juices and they flow easier when warm), with either the largest hole when absolutely cold, switching to the next hole down once the coil has had a warm up.
I clean and dry burn every week and it's looking as tho I'll reach the expected 4 week lifetime.

But then everyone's experience is different from the next person's.

It could be down to your juice. Are you running a vv @ 3.7V or are you using the nominal voltage on a mech mod for your calculation? (When these batteries come off the charger they should be around 4.2V. 4.2x4.2/1.8=9.8W)

Cant dry burn cotton...

The standard coils have Silica wicks though, which you can dry burn... Maybe you're not dry burning long enough. Here's how I do it:

Rinse the coil for a few mins under a warm tap water stream. Blow the water outta the coils until I no longer taste the eliquid (about 2-3 times of rinsing. Blowing consists of blowing air 'fat end' to 'small end', then placing my finger over the 'small end' and blowing again so that water comes out the wick holes.). Screw back onto the base and put on battery. Then you gotta hold the button about 3-5 secs at a time to dry the water, then again until you see the coil start to glow. Keep pulsing the button 2-5 secs at a time until the coil glows orange end to end (starts from the center) at about 1 sec after the button press. Then, do that several more times, holding the 'end to end glow' about 2 secs. Rinse to clear away any burned junk and to clean the wick, blow the water out, dry burn a few times to drive the water out.

It must be said that I do this on a dedicated battery at 3.5-3.7v (EVOD type) to help keep the wattage down and reduce wear on my MVP.

I've noticed that the outer blanket in the Nautilus heads seems to be out of place after I use it for a while. To clarify, there are two coils with silica twisted wicking that sit in a slotted fiber tube. The tube apparently just holds the coils in place and aligns them at right angles to contact the feeder wick (the part you see through the 4 small holes in the side of the atomizer).

The wicking around the outside seems to migrate and fluff up when it actually should stay down in the insert. I haven't tried to remove it, but there's what looks to be an insert at the connector end of the atomizer where they wrapped the feeder wicking blanket around the tube that has cutouts at the top and inserted it into the larger tube. It's all difficult to explain, but I'd say that the wicking is where manufacturing went wrong. It's bunched up around the area above the coils and it just blossoms over time. That restricts maximum air flow.

If you take one apart and examine it, you'll see the wicking down inside and a seam at the bottom connector end where they wrapped the wicking and inserted it into the head. That wicking shows through 4 holes around the side. It's that wick you see bunched up around the top coil restricting air flow.

here's the response Aspire gave to someone that was complaining about bad wicks:

Thank you for giving us your feedback. In order to uphold our reputation for producing high quality vaping products, we are addressing recent complaints regarding the Aspire Nautilus coils.

After further analysis of the coils, we have pinpointed what was giving certain e-liquids a burnt taste. We found that the rope fibers inside the coils were not thick enough for the atomizer to reach appropriate heating levels. Thankfully, these rope fibers were only used in a limited number of products.

We have corrected the issue and are now using rope fibers that will allow customers to enjoy the full flavor of the e-liquid.

The Aspire team is taking full responsibility for these products. We are going to fix this problem by provide our direct distributors and wholesalers with the modified replacement coils. Customers can exchange their defected coils with the new coils at the store where they purchased their Aspire Nautilus from. The number of new coils issued will be proportional to the number of original Aspire Nautilus products purchased.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused. Our research and development team is working hard to provide the best possible product to our customers. We are constantly seeking ways to improve our current line of products while also developing new products that will give consumers the high quality vaping experience that they are looking for.

Your feedback is extremely valuable and we look forward to our future work together.

That's interesting. I have a bag full of Nautilus coils, some of which were great and some that never tasted as good as the others. I'll have to check with my vendor and see what they are doing for replacements. Those things are about $3.50 apiece ... not cheap unless they last a couple of weeks.

Is there a link to the actual statement by Aspire that I can show to my local B&M?

Exactly. I would be curious to know how vendors are going to handle this.. If they will be legit and actually give out replacements or make up some BS and not do anything.. Only time will tell!

On my nautilus the main reason for smaller production is the wick not making contact with the wick/insulator sock inside the head. I think over a few days the wick material is gumming up on the ends and reducing flow. Since I have been wrapping my own for the nautilus no more leaks or dry hits.

Been trying to get an answer to this question for weeks with no success.

WHEN CAN YOU TELL THAT CLEAROMIZER AND/OR COIL HAS TO BE REPLACED.
I am new Vaper, started out with eGo in Jan 2014.
Rewarding myself with Provari mini and Aspire Nautilus with flavored 50/50 juice and zero nic.

Should be in mailbox this afternoon.

Point I am trying to clarify is.....how do you know coil is needing replacement.

Thanks
ArtyPa

Rip Trippers is one of the best to watch and learn. He does a single coil replacement on the Nautilus and it's really all you need. He did a dual coil replacement video also, but seems to like the single micro coil even better.
