Been trying to get an answer to this question for weeks with no success.

WHEN CAN YOU TELL THAT CLEAROMIZER AND/OR COIL HAS TO BE REPLACED.
I am new Vaper, started out with eGo in Jan 2014.
Rewarding myself with Provari mini and Aspire nautilus with flavored 50/50 juice and zero nic.

Should be in mailbox this afternoon.

Point I am trying to clarify is.....how do you know coil is needing replacement.

Thanks
ArtyPa

Arty... there is no definitive answer to your question.. you will be able to tell by taste of juice not quite right... less vapor production.. and dry hits.. the darker juice you use, the quicker the gunk will buildup on the coils.. or if the juice has a lot of sweetener in it.

Usually 1 week is a solid estimate.. some people say they can get up to 2 weeks on certain ones.. it all varies. Once I notice the juice tasting funky or not as good, I switch it out.

Rip Trippers is one of the best to watch and learn. He does a single coil replacement on the Nautilus and it's really all you need. He did a dual coil replacement video also, but seems to like the single micro coil even better.

Cool man thanks, I'm hoping the new kanger heads are going to have a similar process on rebuilding since they are very similar to the aspire ones now.

Kangers are the easiest heads to rebuild, IMO. I just wind the coil in Rip Tripper fashion (except I use a coil winder) and pop it in, followed by an organic cotton wick and flavor wick. It's just easy and I've saved a zip lock with used heads over time. I still buy a few Nautilus heads here and there. So many of them have blooming going on in the main wick blanket and it's hard to get reliable contact to the coil wick.

A good Nautilus head will last over a week, so a 5 pack at $11 is pretty cheap for over a month's vaping time.

Not sure if you know.. but kanger has redesigned their heads.. they are similar to the aspire ones now.. if you google the new Mega Protank or whatever its called (Mega Aerotank maybe?) the new ones come with those.

Thanks for all the input folks, if I could get about a week out of each I consider it a decent value. The soaking and dry burning all seems like quite an ordeal for saving a $3 coil. Actually, on the topic, how much longer does such a process get me out of the coil? I have zero experience with this so bare (bear?) with me and thanks in advance.

I'm one for saving money but when it comes to vaping, I'm looking for plug-n-go convenience. Not always time for science experiments between work shifts. No offense at all to you tinkering peeps.

Another question, when the wick inside the head turns black, or very dark, does that mean it's spent? I notice this happens quickly, usually on my next refill of the tank, which is typically the second time I see said wick.

One last thing I wanted to chime in on, ripped open my vapemail today, super excited about getting the much anticipated Mother's Milk ejuice. I ordered it from Skyline Vapor, and was super stoked to discover two freebie 10ml bottles of juice along with it, and a coupon code for a discount on another purchase! Don't want to sound like a commercial schmuck but I was very pleased with my experience with them. Cheers

Heads for tank atomizers have variable life spans. Generally, when the flavor dies you have three options:

1. Replace the head and forget about it
2. Clean the head using one of several methods
3. Recoil the head and restore it to like new condition

Cleaning may just be a matter of running it under hot water and then pulsing it until the water dries out and you see a glow followed by smoke as the crud burns off. You can only do this if the wicking is made of a non-combustible material. Cotton wicking doesn't dry burn well at all. Silica will withstand the heat and allow you to dry burn. The silicone gaskets where the wires pass through burn easily so you have to pulse and be careful and not overdo it.

Recoiling is fairly easy on some heads and difficult on others. You Tube has videos that show the process for those that are recoilable or dry burnable. You Tube is an excellent source for learning. I like Rip Trippers videos, personally. They have tutorials on most commercial and rebuildable heads.

Song Title......."Does your chewing gum lose it's flavor on the bed post overnight? "

The comments remind me of this old song.

I now have a FIRM grasp of the issue and consider my question answered by fellow knowledgeable vapers.
I have been lucky getting weeks out of $5 eGo Clearomizers.
Its based on the fact that I used a 50/50 mix of a peach flavor and a lower concentration of 12 mg peach . I mix 1/2 zero mg and 1/2 12 mg nic of same flavor.
After some time I boil the clearomizer and let it dry. I suppose it explains how I am getting longer life.

As the guy says in the commercial...."BUT WAIT.....THERE'S MORE".

Using this method I have managed to wean myself off of nic altogether. (It is a decision I made without casting any disbarraging connotation to nic users (not that theres anything wrong with that...hehe).

I will now be vaping exclusively flavored juice JUST to enjoy the RITUAL of vaping.

Thanks again for all the contributer support for new vapers and long time smokers such as myself.

Grateful regards,
Arty

Imo they last pretty good. I have one that's a couple weeks old and it still works great. I just rinse it in warm water then blow it out and let it air dry. It's the best tank I have ever owned.

I lost the first one I bought, but just bought a new one today. I highly recommend them especially if you want a tank that will last all day without having to refill.

I'm confused. All this talk about dry burning cotton. Are the wicks in a Nautilus Aspire coil head silica or are they cotton?

The wicks are silica rope in a Nautilus head. There are two coils arranged one below the other at right angles. I'm not sure about the feeder wicking that they coil wicks feed from. It appears to be some sort of cotton material. Then there's a tube that holds the wicks into position and sets the height of each. The video below might give you some insight.

Rip Trippers rebuilds a Nautilus with a single micro coil.
