The problem is that I don't know what's causing it to short too.

You'd think that the coil staying in the chimney wouldn't be that big of a problem because you can just unscrew it, but every time I unscrew it I throw it in the base just to check it on my DNA30 and it says shorted. When I look down into the coil head I can see the vertical coil isn't straight up and down, it's diagonal a little bit. I have no idea what's causing it to do that though.

This was never an issue before, but now every coil head that gets stuck in the chimney ends up being shorted. I don't know if I have a bad one or what's going on.

I always tighten the coil into the base nice and snug, and believe me I have been doing the tighten enough so that it feels solid method. Learned that the hard way after having the base so hard to take off many many times hahaha. That thing is such a pain in the ....

That's why I don't understand what's happening. I've had it happened to cleaned/re-used coils, and brand new coils after a couple of tanks. I feel like I'm doing everything right after being a "seasoned nautilus mini user" but this is happening now and it's so discouraging. -.-

If you are twisting the positive pin on the head, it could cause the inner coil to twist? Just a thought.
Jim

Now that you say that I think that could definitely be it. Are you talking about the pin on the end with a hole through it that you can take out? If so that would make sense. Those pins twist very easily though so I feel like it's susceptible to easy shorting if the coilhead gets stuck and that pin is accidentally twisted.
