Aspire Nautilus Tank- Burnt Flavor after 24 hours of use

Hello there! I am a new member and also new to vaping. I have been a long time cigarette smoker but my family bought me a gift yesterday which included the following

Aspire Nautilus tank ((Adjustable Airflow))
Itaste vv v:3.0 Battery Unit (( Variable Voltage/Wattage ))
and a .... ton of liquids.

It was working great ((I spent all day learning about the volts/watts/ohms and whatnot and my settings are as follows:

a: 1.8
v: 3.8
p: 7.5
and I like to use the second largest hole for the airflow intake

But a few hours ago it started tasting burnt. I have read on other forums that this does happen because atomizer that comes with it tends to crap out early, however mine only last 24 hours without too too much vaping action going on and it certainly was not burning too hot.

I took apart, cleaned, and replaced the atomizer with the other given in the box but to no success. It still tastes like crap. even tried to put a couple drops on the wick, nadda.

Any ideas???

Vaping is quite different from cig smoking in that you're heating a coil with your thumb and not the draw. If you're not moving enough air over over the coil (directly proportional to power [heat] that it's set at) it WILL burn the juice in contact with the coil. This can easily be seen while dry burning...imagine boiling your juice on that glowing red coil. Your settings seem to be well within the "normal" range as long as you're continuously pulling enough air over the coil. You may want to try easier, steady, longer hits and possibly lowering your wattage. Many juices are quite intolerant of high temps and do much better at lower settings (I have a few that taste like burning tires anywhere above 4-5 watts). Another factor is if you are taking many back to back vapes, you could very well be drying out your wick since they can only absorb so much juice so fast. This varies greatly according to how thick (VG content) your juice is as well as what type of wick material is in your atomizer...stock "store bought" atomizers almost always have silica wicks in them because they're realtively cheap and very tolerant of high temps (600 degrees I believe) and therefore won't burn and ruin the entire coil assembly if one sucks/burns it dry then fires the coil again. Vaping is a learning process and a wonderful one at that!!! Vape on! Last thing that may help is installing a higher resistance coil in your Nautilus to make the coil burn a little cooler at the same volt/watt setting. :D:vapor:

Thanks for the advice :) I have indeed been taking a few back to back rips as well as letting my friends try my new toy so it seems possible. I checked the wick on the first Atomized I removed, seemed well saturated but I admit to being a newb and not really being able to 100% guarantee that. It just seemed to do it so suddenly (( One rip tasted great, the next then all the following was just yuck))

Do I have to get a new atomizer before It tastes vapable again? or is there a way to cure my poor Aspire?

Man, I've been having the same problem with mine...I actually have two of them.
I've been reading through the New member, old vaper, having issues with Aspire Nautilus thread.
I removed the fabric inside the coil head, as suggested...it has helped one, somewhat, and the other keeps flooding...
I was so excited about this tank.

I have only had my nautilus for 6 weeks now. The three things I had to learn over time to avoid burnt taste were to prime the coil well, adjust the voltage/wattage properly and do not over tighten the bottom cap. When putting the bottom cap on only tighten it finger tight and less than you think. You just want to make a good seal an no more. Over time as you vape and the juice level goes down in the tank it will tighten up more on it's own. When putting a new coil in or even re-filling the tank I make a point of "priming" the coil by closing off the air hole and sucking on the drop tip for about three seconds. Your voltage seems to be set at 3.8 which should be fine but you can always try lowering your voltage a little and see if that helps. Hope this helps but if not maybe others will have tips for you.

I have two nautilus tanks and have had similar issues to the many that have been complaining here. After a little trial and error and lots of replacement coils I think I've came up with a few ideas covering the cause and effect. Since Ive been following my own tips below I'm getting 2-4 weeks of use per coil now with good flavor and good vapor cloud.

Here is a couple tips. I was going through coils every few days and getting poor flavor/vapor production after a few hours use. I think I figured out why following a disassembly of the coil. The cotton wick was burnt to a black ash, the wire coil was also covered with a thick ash. Normal coil cleaning attempts with alcohol (everclear) and partial dry burns were no help to clean off this ash
1. The nautilus doesn't handle real frequent hits, it needs time to re saturate the coils between draws.
2. If taking frequent hits, you can cover the air hole and lightly blow and/or suck on the mouth piece. This will pressurize the tank and suck in e-liquid into the coil chamber. Careful too hard, will flood the coil and cause gurgle. Use of the largest air hole will help clean out and burn off the excess, though.
3. Avoid using the largest air hole if you are using a thicker E-liquid, the thicker the liquid the smaller the air hole. I use the two middle holes only now.
4. If you hit the Nautilus with a high voltage or high wattage it can burn out the cotton wick. This will result in a dry burnt taste with very little vapor production. Use lower wattages and/or voltage for longer coil life. A lower wattage and voltage will deliver plenty of flavor and cloud with the nautilus in my opinion.
5. I use Joytech's Evic mods on my nautilus tanks, I set them for RVW configuration and hit the coils with 1/2 second at 9 watts, 1/2 second at 7 watts 1/2 second at 6 watts and the remaining 8-1/2 seconds at 5.3 watts. This heats the coils up hard and fast with little danger of burning the cotton during an extended burn time. If your mod does not have this option, hit the fire button and wait a second or two before taking a draw seems to help in vapor production at lower wattages and voltages

On youtube there are videos on coil rebuilds for the nautilus, Easy to do with a little patience. I've been researching wicks looking for something a little more durable then the stock Aspire cotton for rebuilding old coils, havent came to any conclusions yet
