What do you guys think of assisted suicide where people who are legitimately suffering from chronic, debilitating pain are allowed to choose death? I personally feel that people shouldn't be allowed to kill themselves because their choices may adversely affect people who rely on them (emotionally or otherwise)..... but then again their pain may be unbearable with death being the only true escape...

Yep, as Dr. Kevorkian said "dying is not a crime". They finally let him out of prison last year. He assisted about 130 people to die. So now you can not get assistance, you have to kill yourself.

I'm for it completely. It's always amazed me that we can put our pets out of their misery, but not people.

It amazes me that it is acceptable to withhold food and water from a person until they die. They then talk about the euphoria that the patient is going through. How would they know? If you did this to your pet you would be in jail.

I really cannot understand why 'any' humans would want to keep another human being alive and suffering when they could easily be helped to have a painless death that is nothing worse than going to sleep and never waking up again. I know I want a way out the moment I am no longer capable of looking after myself.

Dude but what about the people who depend on these people? Some wives and children can't handle the loss and some have killed themself over such losses...
It's a no brainer................anyone against this should spend a few nights graveyard shift in a nursing home. Only reason half of these people haven't done it already is they can't figure out how to do it with pudding.

If you want someone else to be unhappy for your benefit, then you are selfish. I have watch several grandparents suffer and literally wither away recently. Although I loved them dearly and wanted them to stay. I was more concerned about the fact that they were not happy and ready to go. I simply wished for them to have the peace that they sought.......................in the end it's really about what THEY want. Most have lost loved ones that they are anxious to go see.

Yes if the extension of that person's life will save others' lives and happiness.... most people aren't you and many cannot handle the loss of loved ones....

My $0.02 .. A person's life is their own to live/end however they wish. If they're depressed and want to die that should be their choice (not saying I agree with it.. but it's their choice to make) If they are old and infirm and incapable of doing anything more than laying there crapping on themselves. They should be able to choose to go out of this world.

I'll say it right now, if something were to ever happen to me where I was in that state I'd want someone to off me. I am of a mind that if I am no longer able to care for myself and am nothing more than a burden to others I no longer want to live.

I agree with Happily - if you want someone to "live" miserably in constant pain and unhappiness just so that you can say they are still on this planet for your own personal pleasure you're selfish. How could you wish pain and misery on someone you love? If you love someone you should want their happiness over your own selfish wants.
