Tomorrow will be two weeks since I switched from Cigs to Ecigs. I have noticed a pretty severe impact on my running and strength over the last two weeks. It is taking me longer and I don't have the same amount of energy to do the same workouts. My running speed has decreased which is odd because my speed has been slowly increasing over the past year even while smoking. So I have a few questions:

Has anyone else noticed this? Could it be a result of my body repairing itself from the cig damage and or chemical dependancy? How long will this last?

I'm an avid runner. I typically run 15-20 miles a week and i do marathons and halfs. I got into running as part of my quit smoking plan. Two years later I was a pretty good runner, but still smoked. If you really want to shock people, light up after you cross the finish line...

Anyway, I ended up switching to vaping. During the first month I was really lethargic, slept odd hours, and gained about 10 pounds. I just couldn't get my act together to go out and run. Eventually I did get my energy back and I'm way faster now. I just think it takes your body a while to get used to being off cigarettes. There is so much other crap in them than just nic.

I've heard it take between 1-9 months after quitting for your lungs to start repairing themselves. Hang in there, you'll get your mojo back =) And you'll be stronger in the end for it.

I'm not a runner, but about two years before I switched to vap'n I got into exercising. I got P90X and P90X+. Both were really tough, but I hung in there and lost 30 pounds. Then I found ecigs. Within about a month and a half, my endurance and breathing significantly improved. Exercising to the videos got REALLY FUN.

For the first two years I enjoyed the workouts, but I was always hacking and coughing my way through them and really breathing hard. After two to three months of switching,the hacking and coughing during and after the w/o stopped. Deep breating during the cardio went off the charts, thats when it all got really fun.

June 1, 2010, will be my one year off tobacco, I am doing the top cardio program 'Insanity' and even though I have trouble hitting it as hard as the kids on the video (I'm 59) I am in the best shape of my entire life. If it were not for switching to ecigs I really think I would not be anywhere near to what I can do today compared to what I was capable in May of last year.

Hang in there, within 90 to 180 days after you have not had any tobacco you will be amazed at the difference.

Haha yeah I ran my last 10k race in under 50 mins and lit up as soon as I finished. People looked at me like I was insane. Guess I was..

Thanks for the pep talk. My energy seems all out of whack and I am sure it has to do with the other chemicals in the cigs. I will keep at it and hopefully I will stabelize soon.

It will take your body some time to repair the damage; part of this process involves ex......g the tar from your lungs which will gunk up the works until it's all cleared out. All this will differ between individuals. In another month or so you should start making gains in endurance, energy and strength again.

Normally when people quit smoking, they expect a long period of unpleasantness. It was very different for me when switching to vaping. I was happy and didn't crave a cigarette. I still however did go through a period of feeling like crap.

Lots of people assume its something wrong with the vaping, and not the withdrawal of all the other chemicals. I smoked for 20 years so it was quite a bridge to cross.
 
After a couple weeks of vaping, no analogs, I noticed my cardio was becoming a lot easier. Last night I went on a run, and was almost at a full-out sprint for 3 miles. I felt amazing, and my breathing was better than it's been since I was a kid.

I'm fairly certain most of that is thanks to the e-cig, although I have been doing a lot of running lately so some of it is thanks to me. I can't wait to see where I'll be in a few months :)
